Yikes. Nearly a week without a post.

I spent the weekend prepping my Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver for the release of Black/White (3/6). Playing DS while watching sports and WWII footage is considered multitasking right?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Reached Level 30 A-Spec in GT5 and unlocked the X1 Challenge. I managed to finish once at Nuerburgring, 8 seconds off Bronze. Haven't been able to finish at Monza and don't see myself coming close to Bronze. Not gonna give Suzuka the time of day yet.

I have to agree with online sentiment that this challenge is impossible on a controller, even with R2/L2 set up. And if you want to know my skill level, I have all Golds on all License Tests plus all Golds in all events except Grand Tour.

It's that time again :( I really wonder about Blizzards whole balance strategy. They cater to the people who like to PVP and then it ruins classes for the PVE content. The main focus of the game. Time to ditch my druid and level up my shaman or death knight. (Funnily enough, shaman is the class icon in the picture but they're getting a bunch of buffs)

It's also just in time for my desktop to die. You had a good run there buddy and I'll miss your pleasant blue glow.

Steam has a ridiculous deal on Railworks/Railworks 2 DLC until 2/14, 10 am pst.

You can get all 65 DLC packs that cost money for $199.99. Normal price would be over $1000. So thats about $3.07 per DLC.

Might be worth it if you really liked train simulation.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

$1000 of DLC? Holy crap, that is ****tarded. You know what I miss? I miss when you bought a game and then you had the game, and you didn't have to throw away more money on extras in order to get the full game play experience.

I agree partly with that. But no matter how much content you put in the game at release, I still want more content later to keep the life of the game going. So in the end, I still want DLC to some extent.

There's a balance, to be sure. What gets annoying is when things that should be included in the upfront game get released as DLC instead.

I think it's probably better to release $10 DLC every couple months than a single $30 expansion every year, too. Keeps you coming back to the game more frequently, shows the company is still supporting the game, etc.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

DLC, when done right, is awesome. The problem is that I have yet to see DLC that's worth the money. Mostly because I'm p*ssed off it wasn't included in the original when it should have been.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

No, but it's the amount of time required.

Drop in the bucket compared to what it seems it will take for the X1.

I repeat my earlier statement, it is impossible with a controller.

.

And I haven't even made my way into online gaming/patches/current generation games. I'm already sick of hearing about all the new add-ons, updates, etc etc (and I'm not even trying to hear or read those things). What happened to:

1. Buy game.
2. Play, and hopefully beat game.
3. Beat game enough where you have every aspect mastered. No matter what personal goal you set, you can reach, due to knowledge of the game.
4. Buy another game.

Not long after I type this, I get Bronze at Monza. Took me a couple of hours of practice, an hour of watch YouTube videos and an hour to finally nail it down.

And Monza is the easy one.

I don't know who has the patience for some of that stuff either. Like, take a GTA game, in order to be "100% complete" you have to finish all the side quests, and there are a TON of them. Who has the time?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I've had firmware updates on 360/PS3 that took 15 minutes to download and install. These are mandatory if you want to get online, and pop up automatically when you start up the system.

For comparison, here's Contra STARTED AND BEATEN in that time.

AND the credits to boot.

I'd love to see someone do this with the TMNT: The Arcade Game or The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants.

You beat TS: BVTSM like that and I'd be incredible impressed.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I never trust those speed run videos. Didn't the SMB one get busted for being fake? or at least not being all a single run through the game.

Nice thing about DLC is, you aren't forced to buy it. So if you don't like it, you don't have to get it. :)

Is it March yet?
