Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Anyone figured out how to actually use the rewind feature for GT5? I smell BS.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

My level 21 b-spec (cool demeanor) driver couldn't finish better than 7th in the American Championship race at Indy.

So I started a level 1 b-spec (P. Rose, hot-headed) and ran him in the race (same car, same setup). He finished 1st by 4.48 seconds on his first try and gained 8 levels. :D

Edit: Ran it a 2nd time with the now level 8 driver and he won again by 3.7 seconds, and moved up to level 10. I'm sure the only reason he doesn't crash out of the race is because its an oval. But I like that he doesn't feel the need to over brake in corners like my other drivers.

I heard the ZR1 race modded turns that race into a money grind.

And I might have just set the record for most horribly offensive B-Spec driver name. I'm going to hell for this one - A. Frank.

The Seasonal Events, 5 races (2nd tab) are easy money/xp even if you finish 5th or 6th. The first time you race you get all of the rewards up to your finish combined. Then each time after you only get the reward for a higher finish.

I had to buy 3 of the cars + minor tune items and still came out about 1 million credits ahead and gained almost 2 full levels in a-spec.

I was using the ZR1 RM for that race.

Are there times when PSN is really slow? It's taking me like a half hour to download a 30 MB update for NHL 11 and I'm trying to figure out whether there's something wrong with my cable modem or router, or whether it's just coming down really slowly from the server.

My friend brought over his PS3 to play side by side borderlands on two tvs and when we both downloaded the game update from PSN, he dled it about 2 minutes and mine took 30. Who the heck knows sometimes...it has some consistency issues for sure.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Steam holiday sales started today. A lot of stuff on sale or going on sale each day.

Still about 14 hours left on todays items. Some of them:

Fallout 3 GOTY, $20.09
Portal, $3.74 (or $2.25 if you already have half life 2)
Peggle + Peggle Nights, $7.99
Battlefield Bad Company 2, $6.79
Torchlight, $9.99
FM 2011, $29.99

Tons of other deals, including on game packs.

new to that site... is it only PC games?

Also: wow, hockey games have gotten complicated since the last time I bought one (which appears to have been NHL '08 for PS2). Does this weird-*** control system ever start to feel intuitive?

NHL 10 felt normal to me. You don't need to use the extra controls. You could stick with pass/shoot like the old days of 2 button controllers. :)

Woot!

Mass Effect 3 officially announced for Q4 of 2011. Haven't looked forward to a game this much in awhile.

I did the Challenger one and the Skyline one. 3rd and 2nd with transmission and suspension mods (and aero kit.)

Looking for a Chaparral 2J at the moment so I can do the Historic Championship and the American Championship. Also looking for a good car for the rally Special Events (I won a Delta Rally '85, but that has too much HP.)

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Mass Effect 2 demo for the PlayStation 3 came out a few days ago. Just a little warning for anyone considering downloading it, my girlfriend tried downloading it to her PS3 and it got up to 32% then froze. Not only did the download freeze, but her whole PS3. She couldn't even shut it off holding down the power button--had to unplug it. Then anytime she tried turning it back on it wouldn't recognize any discs or anything. Totally f'ed up her system. She contacted PlayStation about it and someone called her back. Apparently some other people had the same problem and they suspect somehow a virus got in to her system through the download and screwed it all up. So they told her how to reset (wipe clean) her system. While she was able to recover her username stuff, all her saved games, etc... on her hard drive were lost. Needless to say, she wasn't happy! ME2 for PS3 comes out at the end of January. You might just want to wait for the full version.

As for Mass Effect 3, saw the trailer for it the other week. Can't wait for that one!

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

It can't recognize any discs? Or does it recognize blu-rays or DVDs and not the other? If it's blu-rays it's a somewhat easy homefix (or an expensive fix to ship it back to sony)

Welcome to my world.:o

(same here with NHL '08; I didn't even bother with some of the controls on that one)

It wasn't recognizing any discs she put in after her system froze. But after Sony had her do a system reset, her PS3 works fine now (save for the fact she lost all her saved games). So I'm not sure what happened, other than whatever it was happened when her system froze while downloading the Mass Effect 2 demo and they told her on the phone some other users had encountered the same problem.

OK, I figured out the controls for NHL 11 and it is now awesome. :D

Does GTA IV not have the option to buy different properties like in GTA:VC and GTA:SA? That makes me sad. What's the point of collecting all this money if all I can use it on is clothes and guns?

The lesson in this: BACK UP YOUR GAME SAVES!

It's not that hard, insert USB hard drive, press "Copy all", done. Problem solved.
