Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

So I have discovered that the "Grand Tour" special event is truly impossible to get all Golds on. The first part has you going around Eiger Norwand in an Alfa Romeo that handles... well it doesn't at all really. Another has you in a Ford WRC Focus that doesn't handle at all. And then there is the night race where you can't see at all, even with headlights.

Though the Monza and Rome races are very very easy.

Also I was given 3 months of PlayStation Plus for Christmas. It's interesting with the "free" games and such but it seems to be worth it. Going to try the DC Universe Online Beta later.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

play with your traction control, steering control, and whatnot. Also for the uberdark race, try adjusting the white levels on the settings.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

JFC the AI races dirty at Indy.

Experience grinding at Indy in the American Championship and there's a GT LM SpecII that keeps rear-ending Bob and a 2J that's farking trying to PIT maneuver him.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

I'm back! Logged into XBL for the first time in awhile. Downloaded 3 Game Paks for Game Room, the small DLC for Fable 3 and the new car pack for Forza 3.

I still need to buy the undead DLC for Red Dead Redemption, but that will have to wait a bit.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Only 1 Steam Deal stands out today (23h50m left).

At that price it's a must have!

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Anybody on xbox live nhl 11 finding that the ea servers have been problematic the past 36 hours or so? Always seem to get disconnected when it's trying to contact the server.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Does GTA IV not have the option to buy different properties like in GTA:VC and GTA:SA? That makes me sad. What's the point of collecting all this money if all I can use it on is clothes and guns?

I believe so. I actually haven't played the game all that much because it was giving me motion sickness and I was too busy to play enough to adjust to the camera. But I do believe I saw that option somewhere.

Got FM2011 for Christmas and in late February of my first season with Austria Wien already. The only other versions I had were 2007 and 2008 so this was quite an upgrade. There is a lot I like (though not sure what year they introduced it) like I saw in the boardroom requests to build a new ground or buy you grounds which would solve major problems I was having in previous games where in order to sustain my growth I needed to expand my seating. Alot of the training options seem easier as well. However some things frustrate me alot so far. The two biggest being the coaches meetings. The meetings themselves are great, the problem is I have no idea where to implement half of their suggestions, unless it's focused training or new position training I don't know where to go, and those two have a button that automatically does it. I've also been having trouble adding subscriptions, I get notes from my coaches I should be subscribed to German and Italian news feeds but can't find where to add them, just manage ones I am already subscribed to. Also having issues with making substitutions, namely that the right panel (which I usually have set to formation) likes to change itself whenever I am midway through dragging a sub to where I want him to go.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

While I didn't participate, I did observe the Kinect in action. That's friggin' bizarre. A little touchy, and a lot creepy how it captures all your movements, but pretty cool.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

After some very annoying wireless router issues, I finally have my PS3 set up. Very excited.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

So I've running around on GT5 completely various. I completed the kart races, the Autumn Ring Mini race was fun and challenging. Completed all the way to the Professional series, Expert and beyond will be fun. Top Gear Track is done, the final race with the VW Kubelwagons was funny. Completing the Rally right now, they've been very easy, especially the snow races in Alaska, I wonder why?

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Ugh! Playing NHL11 right now. My goalie went back behind his net to grab a puck that was dumped in. Apparently he thought it was a good idea to give it a nifty little flip right over the net, landing it right at the top of the crease, nicely positioned for the opposing player just sitting there. Easy tap-in. I've seen my AI goalies pull some stupid moves before, but that just takes the cake.

Edit: And now he's just tossing it directly into the net! I know even real goalies make some bone-headed moves sometimes, but ****. I think they need to concentrate on the AI goalie's puck-handling/own goals a little bit for NHL12 :p

Probably only DL cares, however...

GameStop is giving away free Shiny Legendary Pokemon over the next 3 weeks, starting Jan 3rd. Works with HeartGold, SoulSilver, Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl.

You can download them via the Mystery Gift system.

PSN or Xbox live?

And yes, the goalies tend to be stupid. I give up a lot of own goals too when trying to keep play moving, so I've resorted to just slowing the game down since I'm above average at faceoffs.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

Tangentially related question: I need a new wireless router, does anyone have any recommendations? (It's somewhat related because I need one that doesn't drop its connection so I can play games online.) Ideally I'd like one that:

A) Doesn't drop its connection, like I mentioned. (I mean, that's the whole point, is that the thing WORKS.)
B) Has two USB ports, for connecting to a printer and a drive
C) Can run a DLNA-compliant media server for media from an attached drive such as for streaming to a PS3 (hey, another way this is related to the thread)
D) Doesn't cost too much

None of the contenders from Gizmodo's "Ultimate Router Battle" could manage both B and C. Are there really no routers that have two USB ports, and also can run a DLNA server?

WR850G from Motorola. I've had a couple throughout the house (and back when I was in college in a dorm and then the apartment when I moved there) and they work **** well. The only thing they don't have is the USB ports... Other than that, it does everything you mentioned, including the DLNA server although it can be spotty at times (not sure why). I think I bought them for under $10 on rebate so YMMV.

Re: Official Video Games Thread VI: Somebody set us up the bomb

From what does it serve content if it doesn't have USB ports?
