Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

PS3 and GT5 up and running finally.

Is there any way to unlock the Top Gear track just to screw around on? If it involves winning that farking race with the VW vans I'm going to commit an unspeakable act against livestock.

Also, what are the cheeseball ways to make fast money?

PSN, continuing with the undead celebrity theme, is ZombieBobBarker.

ETA: Some perfunctory research tells me that is EXACTLY what it involves. FML.

That VW van race almost made me throw my controller through my plasma. Wait until you get to the lotus race. I quit after the first ****ing turn every mother****ing time.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I didn't bother getting gold on the top gear race, I finished 6th and settle for the bronze.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I think I ended up with the silver. You need to plan ahead two or so turns so you can position yourself. Plus drafting is more important in this race than any other I've played so far. Brake late and hard or you're not going to have a chance. It's ridiculous.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I got gold with moderate struggle.

You really have to drive aggressive, take the corners faster than them, and pass in the corners.

I was 6th by lap 2 and in 1st after the follow-through.

Then I took the GT-R out on it in time trial and promptly proved that I am NOT The Stig.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Only part I don't like about the AI drivers in that top gear race is that they refuse to give up their driving line even if it ends up costing them the race.

If you bump into one they will continue to force themselves back into postion even if you are still in that spot and it slows you both down to 3 mph. Basically conceding that you both finish 11/12. No real driver would do that. They would either move farther to the one side and try to speed up and pass or drop back behind and wait for the next opportunity to pass.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Put a couple hours into Epic Mickey today.

It is fun, but the camera is super annoying. You can view the world in 1st or 3rd person, and you can recenter the camera view in most places. But when you have to make a certain jump and can't judge distance or height, you will die frustratingly over and over till you get it right.

Thankfully dying doesn't really set you back anything.

The levels are basically just large puzzles with several objectives in each. There are also collectibles scattered through each area as well. I like the paint/thinner system that works nicely.

I'd say its worth getting if you have a Wii.

I've been enjoying it quite a bit. I'm more into the puzzle/adventure type games (this one reminds me a lot of Mario Galaxy, actually) so this kind of game is right up my alley. The camera IS super annoying, but other than that I don't have too many complaints.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

GT5 Blog: Made Level 13 in both A-Spec and B-Spec. Bought a Lambourghini and tuned it a bit. Learned that my B-Spec driver has no clue how to drive said Lambourghini.

He finished 6th in the lambo exclusive race. So I took the exact same car and ran that race in A-Spec. 1st place comfortably. Yeah, I might have to fire him.

I think I am at 80+ cars now (no dups, I sell those). So a decent size collection to choose from.

The B-Spec drivers are idiots. Mine is about 15 percent toward the "cool" side of the meter. He starts the race, then immediately gets frustrated when he can't pass anyone, goes into the red, and starts sliding everywhere and won't take my commands. I have to spam "decrease pace" to keep him sane until he can get to the front.

BTW if you are using a wheel and pedals, what do you have them setup on? Seems like they would move around too much to be fun if you don't have a gaming seat or some homemade thing to attach them to.

I'm hesitant to buy one since the good ones aren't compatible with both GT5 and Forza3.

I have the Driving Force ($100 on Amazon.) I admit, the force feedback took me by surprise - I'm used to holding the wheel in my lap. I just clamped it to a cheapo $15 Wal-Mart folding end table and put the pedals underneath. Works fine, except there's a crossbar underneath that likes to wedge itself under the pedals when you're not looking.

Also, it spins itself lock to lock on system start-up making a hellacious noise in the process :D

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Weird. Beating the GT World Championship under Professional gets you the ending movie. I just did it with B-Spec.

There is still 2 series after this.

Car for beating Professional (random lvl 12): Focus RS WRC 07 '08
Car for beating GT World Championship: Zonda R '09

OK, so, Football Manager. Am I the only one who thinks the player AI is a little off? Players will often seem to just stroll toward loose balls when an opposing player is running after them, even in their own penalty area; when a corner is cleared towards the center circle, the player or players from the attacking team will sometimes also seem to just be strolling towards the ball while the player from the defending team is charging hard; goalkeepers seem to have no idea when to come out and play a ball that's at or past the top of the box. (And it isn't the quality of the players, it's the same with Barcelona as it is with Ebbsfleet.)

I've always thought goalies coming out to play the ball was crap, in every version of FM. It's nearly a goal everytime they come out past the 18.

I also always enjoyed the pass back to the goalie from beyond midfield. Yeah that's not dangerous...

I don't watch entire games, i only watch key highlights. Otherwise the game would really take forever to play. So I haven't really noticed the issues with field players.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

JF, I'm pretty sure you have already, but if you haven't, max out a Miata/MX-5/Eunos/whatever and win the Miata race in Amateur B-Spec. The reward car will obliterate any event it's allowed in. I took it over to the Supercar Championship and was mopping the floor with Veyrons and Zondas

I'm sure I have also, since I am on Expert B-Spec. :D

What car was it? For supercar I was using some Mazda Roadster (tuned, skids a lot in turns) but now I am using a Ferrari 459 Italia (tuned), Lambourghini Gallardo (tuned), or the McLaren F1. I have also used an overpowered Challenger R/T (tuned, that can't even use its 700 hp, so its not very good).

The Mazda Furai Concept.

I'm at Level 11 A-Spec, Level 6 B-Spec. Kinda got caught in a money pit because I ran out of events I could enter without buying any new cars (I am a gigantic cheapskate when it comes to these sort of games,) and my B-Spec driver drives about as well as a ham sandwich. When I hit 12 I'll get a Z06 and spam the American races for quick cash.

Money is pretty easy to come by so it doesn't bother me to spend it. Although I will look in the Used Cars first.

I am keeping A and B spec pretty close together simply because once I beat a series in B spec I go over and beat it in A spec.

Once you get an overpowered enough car you can just send your worst b spec driver out and he will still win most of the time and collect money for you. Such as the supercar events. In the Pro series the XP is pretty good, but the races are 7-20 minutes long.

Oh and you should checkout my profile and tell me what the online car(s) I have listed there do? I mean can you just look at them, drive them, demo them, what? I don't really get that part. I do like the Game Log. I can see exactly what you have done so far. :D
