Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I never did get into a match with the new maps. I added MS points the day before and the download went fine, but I was never able to connect to a game. The match making kept trying but found "0" joinable games. One of the guys in my friend list set up a public party and we played, but not on the new maps.
I did however have a match where I went 30-2-2 on Wasteland. I qualified for the tactical nuke, but sadly did not have that in my killstreak rewards :(

I had issues the first time, but if I went back to the dashboard and reloaded the game it worked fine after that, so you'll probably be fine today. I forget the names but the one new level with a road down the middle and a lot of the buildings on the side is pretty cool, the other two are meh.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Finally Bayonetta went down in price to $39.99 (sale week), so I picked it up. Couldn't see myself getting it at retail.

As it turns out, this game is totally worth the $40. :D

Button mashing, combo making, finishing move, fighting fun!

- 4.5 difficulty levels
- Chapter select (for replaying levels)
- A bajillion unlockable/buyable/collectable items
- Large Boss battles
- Unobtrusive puzzle elements
- Satisfying combat

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Wow. Sony just gave another big "***** You" to th ps3 community. They released a patch that removes a feature that was one of the secondary reasons I bought a ps3. The ability to install Linux. They are essentially holding your system hostage (and their website basically doesn't mince words about it either) if you don't update.

If you're familliar with the name Geohotz I would recommend stopping by his blog to read up on the situation. Especially since this removal is a response to one of his blog posts.

I'm really getting fed up with Sony and I'm going to seriously consider an xbox when the next gen comes out. It's getting ridiculous how Sony is treating their customers.

Why would you install Linux on a PS3 anyways? I mean what is the advantage of that over installing it on any other computer hardware?

Exactly. And I don't see how you could be upset about Sony holding you hostage with the update, it's like that for every system.

You're the console makers *****, learn to love them dictating you can do with the hardware you bought.

I don't care. I'm not a hacker. I just wanna play the freaking games.

They aren't really dictating hardware use. They are simply dictating software use. If you want your PS3 to function as a PS3 then you can't have Linux.

I'd guess if you erased the PS3's BIOS/OS and updates (software based) you would be free to put whatever you want on the hardware.

Separately, there are cheaper pieces of hardware available to put Linux on than the $300-500 it costs for a PS3. Unless they are trying to hack video games, in which case I'd say Sony has a right to stop that type of behavior.

If you buy two pieces of hardware so you can have a console and a pc, that's more money that you have to spend. If you install linux on a ps3 then you basically get a free, decent pc, without screwing up the console function.

Here's an old article explaining how it's done with a built in feature.
http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/how_to/4263321.html

And yes it is them dictating what you can do with your hardware. I don't know how you could rationalize that them saying what you can and can't do with it software wise isn't. If I went out and made a new pc, and the manufacturer of a part required that I use a specific os or program for it to work, they are limiting what I can do with my hardware. (Stupid apple)

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I wasn't really trying to make a rationalization. I simply don't believe it's that big of a deal, and I don't see it as big brother coming to get me.

So while its disappointing for the 1% that want to do that, it's really a non-issue otherwise.

Also I think we are already well down the road of buying things and not actually owning them. So I wouldn't be surprised if Sony's EULA didn't already include something like that for their console.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I've been watching Crackdown 2 trailers and interviews. Getting pumped for July 6th release.

- Co-op (up to 4) is the same exact campaign as single player.
- Customizable agent looks, gender, armor pieces, colors.
- 9 New gangs, who will interact with each other as well as with you.
- New city, new vehicles, new weapons.
- More orbs! Including orbs you will have to chase? Not sure how that works.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I'm about as much a fan of RPG's as JF is toward FPS's, but that looks pretty sweet.
Cowboys FTW!

It's going to be a huge game, as in the areas you can explore will be 1.5 times larger than GTA: San Andreas.

Might help if I shared the first video from that set.

Just got my Starcraft II beta invite...won't have a chance to try it til tomorrow or Monday, though.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I wonder why they decided to push Red Dead Redemption back a couple weeks (May 18 instead of April 27).

Because they don't want to compete with the awesomeness that is the World Cup game :p
