Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

I should finish up Lego Indiana Jones 2 today. I only have to beat the 5 story missions for each level in quick play mode to get the last 2 achievements. Otherwise everything else is at 100%.
Woo done, now I can focus back on RDR for this week + a long 4.5 day holiday weekend. :D

BTW when are we going to form a posse? a) I want the achievement for it (need 8 ppl) and b) it sounds awesome.

Rolled the score on Yars.

Only took me 50 minutes, so I didn't even get My Blisters Have Blisters.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Alert: FM 2010 is half off ($19.99) right now on Steam.

Can also play the game free all weekend, but its Sunday so that's silly to bring up.

I played Yar in your arcade, I suck at it. Not because its hard, but because I can't figure out how to consistently get the cannon shot so I can beat the level.

Watch the interior of the shield (the part you're supposed to hit.) It cycles through the rainbow. When it starts flashing yellow, orange, red, the swirl is coming. What I like to do is get to either the top or bottom of the screen, about halfway between the neutral zone (the glittery path down the middle) and the shield. As soon as the swirl launches, fire your cannon then duck out the edge of the screen. BAM, 6000 points and an extra life.

Once you hit 70K, the shield will turn blue. This means the swirl will come three times as often (it'll launch on red, blue, and green.)

At 150K, the shield turns gray. Now it gets tricky. The swirl goes back to just firing on red, but it can now angle itself in midair to chase you. Basically, if you're anywhere in front of it, you're dead. My strategy changes here. Now what I do is go on the OTHER side of the neutral zone, right up next to my cannon at the top/bottom of the screen. As soon as it fires, duck out the edge of the screen. If you did it quick enough, it will pull a 90 degree turn and head toward you vertically. Fire your cannon and dodge inward (toward the shield.)

At 230K, the shield turns pink, and you get the red/blue/green swirls again with chasing ability until you drop.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

You missed what I was saying.

I literally can't fire the cannon, because I only ever activate it on accident. :o

I have no idea what gives me the ability to use the cannon, as there is only 1 fire button. I can avoid the little missle and the swirl all day long, but that gets boring if I can't beat the level.

You have to physically go up to the shield and eat a chunk of it. (Or if you're out of shield, you can fly over the core to get one.)

Once you have it, just hit the fire button to shoot it. And watch out, it can kill you if it hits you.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

RDR fun stuff: So I've cleared through Mexico and now I'm up in Blackwater which means hunting gets a lot more interesting if you end up in Great Plains or Tall Trees. Great Plains has beavers and buffaloes roaming about and Tall Trees has cougars, bighorn sheep and big f-cking bears.

One mission I've done up there required me to climb up rocks to get to a lookout point. I climbed up to one level and could hear a bear growling near by. I proceeded cautiously as I knew it was somewhere close. Yeah, it was feasting on a bighorn sheep so it was time to put down the bear. I skinned the bighorn and the bear and kept moving up. On the next level up on the mountain there's a cougar pouncing on a bighorn. It made a move to pounce me but I shot it mid-jump. INTENSE!

Going to the same Gamestop all the time is paying off. Got a full refund for my game instead of just trade in value. It was used to start with, but still, thats $38 instead of like $10.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Been playing the ModNation Racers demo today. Pretty fun game but the demo has one track and you can't use any creations and such. I have it pre ordered from Amazon because The Wife wants the Ratchet and Clank (and Sackboy) bonuses.

ModNation Racers today! :)

Picked up my copy using the money from my trade-in. Got the pre-order items anyways since they had extra code cards + the Gamespot item.

It's been getting rave reviews from pretty much all of the sites.

First impression is that it will be fun to play/create but the steering is really loose using the left analog stick.

I preordered mine from Amazon to get the Ratchet and Clank mods (which I got the code for today) plus the bonus mod (I got the Cat one) and Sackboy and kart, so I'll get mine on Thursday (Wednesday night if I wanted to go to work and start picking through containers and find it).

First Mod to make: Me in airport ramp gear in a tug

Drift button is your friend.

My extras codes were Kratos, Mousetrap kart, Sackboy + kart, and Airplane kart

You have to drift of course in order to build up your boost meter.

I will probably spend 9000000 hours on the track editor. I've already watched all the tutorials on it.

Holy crap. If you haven't downloaded the video for LittleBigPlanet 2, do it. That game looks incredible.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

Just finished the main quest of Red Dead Redemption (yeah, I got a bit obsessed).

As for the ending: Wow.

I've always felt that LBP should've been bigger than it was because Sony didn't market it enough.

I really hope that changes with LBP2 because it has the potential of being one of the best games ever.

Re: Official Video Games Thread V: Collector's Edition

So MNR is what I would call "frustrating" to play in career mode.

The difficulty ramps up quite a bit as you move through the career, and it becomes painful to try and achieve the 3 goals for each race. Especially when some of the AI racers run perfect.

It also suffers from the MKWii issue of being blown up consistently by the AI 20 feet from the finish line and going from 1st to 4th. Although there is a shield in this game that can help a little with that.

I should also mention, despite a patch already, the load times between screens is ridiculously long.

Just finished the main quest of Red Dead Redemption (yeah, I got a bit obsessed).

Nice work.

I wonder if getting past certain points in the main story line cuts you off from other quests?

Because really for me the game is about the side stuff, not the main story.

So far my Memorial Day weekend plans are looking like I might be going to the Yankee game on Saturday, and that is all. Perhaps some RDR in my future? I kind of don't like sitting inside playing video games, regardless of how awesome they might be, on long weekends, especially with nice weather.
