Men's team made the NCAA Tournament in 2010 & 2011; didn't come close last season. Historically, keys for success have been solid/outstanding goaltending plus 2 or 3 seniors scoring a lot of goals. This happened in '10 & '11 but neither happened last season. Di Girolamo did not play well in goal and only Stevie Moses scored a bunch of goals.

This season, the goaltending should be solid with Casey DeSmith in net and Jeff Wyer as backup. Big question: will John Henrion, Greg Burke, Dalton Speelman (almost a senior) and/or Austin Block score 15 or more goals each? Defense should be very good. A few Sophomore and Junior forwards could have breakout seasons. Will be interesting to watch.

Well their defense has always been a problem, the run n' gun style followed by a umbrella power-play really hasn't worked well for the cats' in the past. In order to make it this year they need to come out strong and fresh with a new style of play.... also not hating but how does everyone feel about this new "wildcat army", making the student section more like a soccer crowd than a hockey crowd? the hockey purist in me wants the cheers to be more classic hockey oriented but the other side of me feels that its good to show such strong enthusiasm

Re: Official UNH Wildcats Offseason Thread 2012

Whats up guys I am new to the USCHO forum, been a lifetime wildcat hockey fan my father was the rink announcer at snively in the 80's.... anyways are the rumors true that the whitt finally got a video board???

hey hampshirepuck. Im a student here at UNH and i have skated on the ice at the whitt a few times since the year started. The scoreboard has not changed from previous year, and although the endzone video board doesnt appear to have change either it has been off every time ive been in there so i cant confirm that the video screen has been updated or not. but if there were any renovations i feel like UNH would have been promoting it and since i have heard nothing im going to assume that there hasnt been any change.

Solid points CHC.. great work on the blog as well this summer.. great to have something like that.

UNH I believe is a bit deeper than in yrs past for players having the potential of putting up 10-15plus goals. I don't know that it will come from the Sr's, outside of Henrion, but I think the Sr's here as a group will be fighting hard to get UNH back into the NCAA's- missing the tourney last year has got to sting some for them and I think their leadership and focus will be a tremendous value. But in all reality, it should sting some for everyone, I think they'll all be quite focused on getting back. This team has the ability to get back.

Henrion, Sorkin, Downing, Goumas.. have that goal scoring potential, as well 3 of them will likely be back next yr and as I think has been a good trend in the past, Fr. getting lots of ice time like, Thrush, Willows ,TVR etc.. will be beneficial. Also, outside of Pesce and McDonald, this is one of the older Fr. classes that I can remember-- most have spend 2-3yrs in Junior's. If they get good ice time, guys like Corealle, Smith, Hill etc.. should transition to D1 relatively quickly.

Looking forward to another fun season of following the 'Cats.!

.....and only Stevie Moses scored a bunch of goals.

But, eight of Stevie's goals came in two 4-goal efforts in games that did not matter much last season.

I am looking for Sorkin, Goumas, and Downing to put up some solid offensive numbers this season, assuming that their line is kept intact.

Oh happy day!
Oh happy day!

(Anyone else get their season tickets today?)

Re: Official UNH Wildcats Offseason Thread 2012

The purchase individual game tickets page at unhwildcats.com shows reduced youth and senior prices for "Special Publics".

http://www.unhwildcats.com/tickets/2012-13_Season/MHOC_Buy_Tickets_1213

This just reaffirms the decision we made to drop our 4 season tickets this year (had them since the 90’s). Now I can go to the games I want, not have to purchase tickets to 2 exhibition games or the game in Manchester – plus (since I’m a “special public”) I get a discount to boot! Wonder why season ticket sales are down?

Also, another odd schedule this year. Four total games in November/December? Exactly zero Friday or Saturday games in December? Very strange.

Re: Official UNH Wildcats Offseason Thread 2012

This is a tentative TV schedule for Hockey East (note: complete updated list will be published again before the start of the season, these games were available at the time of release):

Friday, January 11 New Hampshire at Boston College 7:00pm NESN

Sunday, February 10 Providence at New Hampshire 4:00pm CBSSN
Friday, February 22 New Hampshire at Vermont 7:00pm NESN
Saturday, February 23 New Hampshire at Vermont 4:00pm CBSSN

Re: Official UNH Wildcats Offseason Thread 2012

So, which Hockey East coach voted UNH #1 this coming season (nine voted BC #1)?
