Re: Official UNH Wildcats Offseason Thread 2012
Men's team made the NCAA Tournament in 2010 & 2011; didn't come close last season. Historically, keys for success have been solid/outstanding goaltending plus 2 or 3 seniors scoring a lot of goals. This happened in '10 & '11 but neither happened last season. Di Girolamo did not play well in goal and only Stevie Moses scored a bunch of goals.
This season, the goaltending should be solid with Casey DeSmith in net and Jeff Wyer as backup. Big question: will John Henrion, Greg Burke, Dalton Speelman (almost a senior) and/or Austin Block score 15 or more goals each? Defense should be very good. A few Sophomore and Junior forwards could have breakout seasons. Will be interesting to watch.
Solid points CHC.. great work on the blog as well this summer.. great to have something like that.
UNH I believe is a bit deeper than in yrs past for players having the potential of putting up 10-15plus goals. I don't know that it will come from the Sr's, outside of Henrion, but I think the Sr's here as a group will be fighting hard to get UNH back into the NCAA's- missing the tourney last year has got to sting some for them and I think their leadership and focus will be a tremendous value. But in all reality, it should sting some for everyone, I think they'll all be quite focused on getting back. This team has the ability to get back.
Henrion, Sorkin, Downing, Goumas.. have that goal scoring potential, as well 3 of them will likely be back next yr and as I think has been a good trend in the past, Fr. getting lots of ice time like, Thrush, Willows ,TVR etc.. will be beneficial. Also, outside of Pesce and McDonald, this is one of the older Fr. classes that I can remember-- most have spend 2-3yrs in Junior's. If they get good ice time, guys like Corealle, Smith, Hill etc.. should transition to D1 relatively quickly.
Looking forward to another fun season of following the 'Cats.!
