RED? Just throw your new green Cardinal jersey on, and your all set. Pulling for both teams with one jersey...priceless

It has been awful quiet this week? This Geneseo game is the biggest one of the season for this new team. Will they step it up against a strong Genny team? Can the goalies hold on for the win? Should be a great game, and I am really looking forward to watching two strong teams on the ice again!

Tora Tora Tora! We caught em right where we want them!

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I think with our loss to Geneseo any chance of a Pool C bid are out, its win the SUNYAC or watch the NCAA's from home.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Lakers just could not overcome a dreadful first period...all credit to Geneseo...they looked like the better team tonight. Looks like play in for Oswego.

Agreed. The Lakers simply could not overcome that bad first period, and Geneseo came out flying. The strength of this Geneseo team is the past two recruiting classes. The sophomores and freshman are strong players! It still was a heartbreaker at the end with Oswego hitting the post on an open net, and Genny's goalie making a save with the butt end of his stick. Great game, Geneseo is a strong team.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Geneseo was the better team after Waterstreet scored, Oswego just stood around and watched. Then in the second Oswego was the better team and got one back but again wasted too many Power Play chances. In the third the urgency just didn't seem to be there, they need a bounce or a great individual play and got neither. This group just seems to have a knack for wasting opportunities, both to change the course of games and their season, and for taking large portions of the game off. Hopefully they figure it out going forward, and I think they will, but probably not in time to make a run at things this year.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

I know it was in the third and the Lakers were still in it, but I was stunned that Ed let Gilbert stay in after he got hurt. He could barely put any weight on that leg and he was in obvious pain. Then he got taken down again and he still stayed in. I give Justin a lot of credit, but I can't believe he stayed in. When he was pulled for the extra skater at the end, he couldn't even skate to the bench. Other than that, I agree with everyone. A dreadful first period, a really good second period and a mediocre third. You won't beat good teams like that. I hope we have a good crowd tonight, because it could very well be the last home game of the season. Maybe a home play-in game in the SUNYACs.

On a side note, the crowd was terrible last night. An attendance of 2300 when two of the top teams in the conference play on the second to last home game of the season? And I mentioned this earlier in the season, but the students are really disappointing this season. Last year and in years past, the student section would have been jam packed for a game like this. It was maybe 60% full and most of these students don't pay any attention to the game. They simply cheer when someone gets hit. Hopefully these students can mature as the players do over the next few years. End rant. Go Lakers.

Well......that was unexpected. I hate losing at home.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

It shouldn't come as a surprise at all. They have regressed to the point where I don't think it can be brought back this season. They no longer do anything that helped them win games earlier in the season. The goalies need to provide a big save or two before the team is down a couple and they just take long breaks in the defensive end. I have never seen a team that can't pass or accept a pass like them, it is almost comical some nights. Young team or not they completely look like crap and I really don't see that changing before the season is over. The upperclassmen except for Rivait and Titanic just seem to make so many rookie mistakes, and then you have Montagna missing so many opportunities right in front to win games. On top of everything, hockey is a momentum game and these guys really need to find a way seize and keep the momentum in games, two nights in a row Chris Waterstreet got them a huge goal and they didn't take advantage of it.

And, make sure you check out the Utica thread, and post there often...they love having visitors :p

Especially ones who comment on flaws in their team's effort.

Or challenge Fish's knowledge on pretty much anything.

As long as you use smart sounding words in Fishman's presence you should be fine.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Lets leave Fish out of this, he has enough troubles on the UC thread.
Don't know what to make of this weekend except that at this point of the year there should be more answers than questions but the reverse is true. Gilbert actually played a good game for only the first goal was his fault for he didn't control the rebound. I have said this the whole year this teams needs a shooting coach for as Laker 28 mentioned to many missed nets. I don't know when they have come out with a donut for point in a home weekend. I felt bad for Titianic and Badham last night for them to have their last home game as a lost. Very disappointing that they couldn't get their act together to support the Seniors on their night. If they play like this next weekend they will loose both games. Da Bears have been playing some really good hockey right now.

+100000. Could not have said it better myself. These guys played more like a team in their first home game if the season than they did in their last. It's baffling. There is so much young talent on this team, but they seem to have lost the ability to play together. They have 3 young goalies and they are going to need some serious improvement. Gilbert made some good saves last night, but his rebound control is terrible. So many shots just bounce off him, giving the other team a second chance. And since he's not getting much help on defense these days, the other team gets a good chance to put it in the net. I never thought I would see the day that this team was completely outplayed and outhustled by Brockport. But that's what happened last night.

their 3rd 4th and 5th leading scores are transfers, and their 2nd leading dman scorer is a transfer as well. They are getting it done.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

ugh only got to watch the Genny game in where we played about a period of good hockey, not sure why that is.To start the d-zone coverage was horrible, almost like they expected the other guy to pick up the free man,men were open IFO the net and the points were open as well.Very passive on the PK,genny skated around with the puck like it was open skate at times as we watched gleefully. Rebounds galore by Gilbert and he seems to be out of position a lot,3rd goal, ouch, and as mentioned b4 the goalie has to come up with big saves at times.didnt see it. we have to bury chances, and man we shoot a lot of pucks off the boards, what happened to shoot and crash the net,we were doing that earlier in the yr and it seemed to work.I like watersteet on the PP IFO the net.Hulshof, didnt seem him the second half of the game, injury? and was not in the line-up sat?? Orser and hart both nights?? injuruy to willis, scott, king???? I thought we would see a different line-up for sure????????we rolled 4 lines all game except the last 4 mins?? How many times can Badham fall in a game??Crowd as mention looked HORRIBLE?? Yes a ton of ?????? After this weekend I don't see getting past the first round of the SUNY's.ps...This weekend could be/get ugly if the men dont take it up several notches...When was the last time we got swept at home by Genny and Bport???, yes more???

Hang in there. It's called "growing pains".

P.S. goaltenders need to step up and play.
