Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

Does anyone know if Eli Kim-Swallow has been Red-Shirted for this season?? I don't recall seeing anywhere if he has. If not I don't think we will see him this year.

I know he was injured to start the year, have no idea if he was injured to the point of not practicing with the team or if he was/is practicing? Haven't heard any rumors on a medical redshirt either? I have seen him at the North end of the rink every home game enthusiastically watching.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

3-0 and 27-26 advantage in shots. I just can't figure out how Nazareth only has a couple wins this year? They looked very good last night, and had Oswego chasing in their own end pretty much all of the 3rd. This game was as close as the 27-26 shots total indicates. I don't think Oswego had an off night at all, Nazareth just really played a solid, fast game with a solid goalie who can handle the puck very well. Both teams forced the play to the outside, Zawadzki had a great game last night with probably his best rebound control, everything being directed into the corners. It just was a good competitive hockey game to watch, I enjoyed it

To me, it looked like a combination of Naz playing a good game and Oswego not as much. They played ok, don't get me wrong. But they definitely didn't look like the team that put up 9 the other night. They had some really bad giveaways and some of the really bad passing that we've seen all season. Naz hung in there, for sure. And this game easily could have been 2-1 instead of 3-0. Z made a huge mistake when he came out of the crease and flung the puck right to a Naz player, and then made an amazing pad save. He screwed up and he knew it. For a few minutes after that, he stood in the crease shaking his head. Oswego's last goal could have easily been waved off. It sort of looked like it went in off of Montagna's hands and his hand motion made it like he punched the puck into the net.

Either way, another win for the Lakers. It's been a tough stretch of 5 games in 8 days and if they can finish it 5-0 it will be quite an accomplishment.

As a lifelong Cardinal fan, I must say I am quite impressed with the Lakers in this year of "rebuilding"....They have played themselves right in to NCAA picture with a good run. It's beginning to look like SUNYAC could grab one of those Pool C bids. Very impressed with Gosek's job this year. And the freshman goalie is putting up some great numbers. Keep it going !! (until you visit Plattsburgh of course).

When was the last time Elmira beat Oswego? It would be a nice win after a rough season last year.

Re: Official Oswego State 2013-2014 Season Thread - A New Beginning...

October 24th of 2009 at the Domes was the last time Elmira beat Oswego, a 2-1 final. The Lakers went on to win 22 straight games after the Elmira loss before ending their magical season with a loss to St. Norbert in Lake Placid.

Elmira seems to be playing better hockey as of late and Oswego is pretty tired after playing so many games in a short period of time. If Elmira can stay out of the box and get Oswego to take a few penalties they have a good shot at ending their streak.

2009, and was quite a defensive battle with a combined 81 shots on goal  http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2009/10/24/oswego-vs-elmira/

I believe Oswego can even the series tonight with a win. Elmira currently holds a 44-43-5 lead

2008 Loss to Elmira. Look at Oswego's penalties! http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2008/10/18/oswego-vs-elmira/

LOL, I forgot about Zawadzki's turnover. I'll bet he was spoken to about staying in his net from now on :p

Silly young team - tie Plattsburgh and Utica, beat Utica at home, lose to Fredonia and Elmira

You knew it was going to be an interesting year

Cliche, but better to have this experience now....down three early, fight back...just fall short....plenty of material for the coaching staff to work with....on to conference play.

+1. Just an off night. 6 games in 10 days, plus a long bus ride to Elmira could have meant some tired legs. A rare off night for Z, but good for Gilbert for playing well for 2 periods to allow the Lakers to come back and make it close. These guys aren't going to go undefeated, we all knew that. This team does have a history of playing well in big games and not so well in the smaller ones. Who knows what happened last night, but now it's just time to get ready for next weekend.

Long bus ride? Elmira is 2 hours from Oswego...

It might be 2 hours but for some reason it seems longer than that.

With a young team I am shocked that it was as close as it was considering how tired they looked in the third Friday night against Nazareth.

Well there you have it.

Rather than rehash this game just go back and re-read the comments from the loss at Utica last year. It was Groundhog Day all over again. Not the same Elmira team we saw at the Campus Center on 11/16- they looked like a Div I team (or we made them look like a Div I team) for at least the first half of the game. Zwad didn't get a lot of help in the first, Elmira was swarming from the puck drop. Gilbert (just like at Utica) came in in relief and held them out for two periods. He made some spectacular saves.

I want to say we just ran out of gas after eight games in two weeks, but we put on quite a push in the third after the two power play goals- so there was still something left in the tank. Three minors on Waterstreet and two for Carr didn't help. There was one post that I'm sure is still ringing in the igloo, half a dozen "almosts", so it's not like we were out of it. But to be down 3-0 at the beginning of the third was something we sure didn't expect and haven't seen in quite a wile. Hats off to the Soaring Eagles- they caught us just where they wanted us and finished the job.

Looks like we'll need to win the SUNYAC to earn a trip to Maine this year. Lick our wounds, rest up, and be wary of the road trip to two good teams this weekend.
