Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

I do have to say, one nice thing about my weekend in northern Kentucky was that many people talked about drinking/drank bourbon. They weren't obsessed with beer like people around here are.:p I just can't see the appeal to beer, never have liked it and I'm starting to think that I never will. Give me a good bourbon on the rocks or a cheap one with coke or even a decent vodka sour and I'll be happy though.:D

Surprisingly, I prefer hard alcohol to beer. But a good beer.....man, it's good. :)

I have been getting more and more into whiskey/scotch. The biggest benefit is that the hangovers, if there is one, pale in comparison to the ones I get off of beer.

<---rarely if ever get hangovers. BUT if it's a scotch/whiskey hangover....good God. Although of all hangovers, that combo is still the rarest. It's like the hangover gods say, "if you have one, you'll pay!"

BTW, maybe next Tue, the 28th, how about an OC $2 Tuesday? It's during OC Octoberfest, $2 any pint........give in to the devil!:)

I do like bourbon & coke or gin & tonic for variety, but I've always been a beer guy at heart.

I think I get the worst hangovers from sweeter drinks, due to the gut-rot factor that it adds, and I get that bad. At school, mornings after LI pitchers or after getting drunk on fishbowls were always the worst. My hangovers usually aren't too bad with whiskey, especially if I limit the amount of coke I drink along with it.

edit: Do you go to the same OC as for football Sundays? I may be interested just to go and hang out, because I probably won't partake in any $2 pints.

Having some beautiful weather this afternoon, so I think when I get home I'm going to pour myself a manhattan, or maybe just bourbon on the rocks (I have some elijah craig 12 yr I need to drink up) and sit out on the patio with a cigar.

Exactly, the stronger the drink, the less I feel like crap the next day. Seems backwards, but it is true.

Newcastle is very overrated for what they charge for it.

It's all a matter of taste, my friend. Just because you don't like it as much as others, that doesn't mean its overrated. It happens to be my favorite beer. And if you live in the right area, it's really not too pricey. Where I used to live, it was $18.99 for a 12-pack. Where I live now, I can get it for $13.99, or even $10.99 if there's a good sale.

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

I'd be up for one.

Kicking myself for not getting an earlier start out of da UP - I could have stopped at the winery that apparently makes kick-* cider and mead. :(

On the other hand, I did pick up sixers of KBC Brown, KBC Widowmaker Black and New Glarus Yokel. :D

Now you're making me even more depressed that I won't be able to go up to Houghton this upcoming weekend. :(

Yeah, it's the same one. I think they have specials on rail drinks, too, which may also fall under the $2 category.

True, not everyone is into the rich, heady sort of beers that I prefer.

Newcastle would be a nice, easy-drinking hockey brew if I ever found it at 10.99 for twelve. All the stores I've ever frequented charge no less than $9.99 for six, which I think is outrageous for what it is, regardless of its import status.

$10 for 6 is insane. And I like Newcastle. Hell, I won't pay $10 for 6 for Paulaner Hefeweizen, and that's one of my favorites.

I think the going rate around here for Newcastle (at a reasonable store) is about $8 for 6.

Sprecher Black Bavarian.

A few too many of these, and you just might catch yourself singing "On Wisconsin!" by the end of the night.

Or the R-rated version anyway. ;)

That's a very good beer. My OC has it on tap regularly.
