Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Here's some more:

It'll run about $30+ for a meal and a beer. But you won't eat until the next night. Awesome food, I recommend the spatzle with whatever else you order. And if you go on a weekend, there's polka downstairs until midnight, then usual club/top 40 music. $11/L beer downstairs, $6 for 1/2L. Doesn't matter what beer you have. A boot is $24 (IIRC it's 2L), but you have to pay a $50 deposit, in case you break said boot.

I live in Wisconsin. It is polka 24/7 here. :p

Thanks for the heads up!

Spaten Optimator

This is the second "green bottle German import" that I've had that I would bother buying again (the other was Hofbrau Original).

Tastes like liquid rum raisins. Yum.

Lovely stuff, and you can get it year-around at Metzler's outside Ann Arbor. One of the best German restaurants I've been to, including restaurants in Germany.

The polka rules at Gasthof's. We were actually mad when the "real" music played. And they have a polka band/accordian guy that plays during the meals, goes table to table.

Are you sure that it is a German place? With the accordion guy, it sounds like a Polish place. :)

I still don't think they actually played Blue Skirt Waltz, but I requested it only shortly before everything went loopy. :o

It's German. Trust me on this.

And the snuff! Oh Parise that stuff rules. Think: snort powdered Halls.

I was sneezing up that **** for most of the next day. :p

For Polish stuff, LWB, you need to go to Kramarczuk's Deli, then across the street to Nye's Polonaise. I think they actually have Polish polka there too.

Nye's is great, but rather pricy for the food (but worth it). I felt like I walked into Goodfellas, though, with the retro-esque setup.

If you are on the end of a bench, be wary of everyone else on it standing up.

I don't have to worry. I will be one of the people that stands up on the benches. :D

Speaking of German beer houses...there is a great one a block away from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Drinking. I have done it this evenening. :) And it was delicious.

Glass (oh the high ball variety):
2/3 Maker's Mark
1/3 Armaretto
cherry

Pour over ice.

Happy
You can keep the cherry...and the amaretto. I'll take the Maker's though. :D
I really have to get to Gasthof's. I am tentatively planning on being up in the area at the beginning of June. Pencil in your calendars.
Done. I'm always up for a Gastof's experience.

The first time I read this as "Mettlers"

There is polka at Nye's, not sure how to tell if it is polish or not. I had some Kramarczuk's at TF, it was excellent.

I remember that place, we went there before the frozen 4. I think there is even a picture of a group of us posters that was taken there before the national championship game.

Keepin' it classy - Ommegang Rare Vos with a cork! ;)

...oh, and it's great beer too, but I already knew that.

I've only had the Three Philosophers, and that was rather splendid, I must say.

Unibroue offerings are also very good and authentically Belgian (as in, not just your run-of-the-mill "Summer Sunset Cherry Orange Wheat with a Twist Ale"), but they're made in Quebec, a province I cannot economically support during the NHL playoffs under any circumstances. ;)

After my 9.5 hour day, I'm keeping it to the Buffalo Trace ($19 at Haskell's right now!).
