Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

Monday night I got absolutely stupid hammered at the Fremont in Las Vegas. Hilarity ensued, especially at the Glitter Gulch.

We were that night. I had the most fun out there though. :)

There's the obvious bars(NY NY and Hard Rock) that you should shy away from (think frat kids), but the nicer places......hello Sin City.

NY NY was neat to walk through and look around a bit, but yeah we didn't spend much time there for that reason. Never approached Hard Rock.

I couldn't help but feel horribly out of place walking into the Bellagio after being downtown. :D

Yeah, you gotta dress up for that one (which we did). Mandelay, marginal. Luxor, 50-50 at best, but it helps your chances. House of Blues bar (Mandelay, IIRC) it doesn't matter.

Luxor drove me crazy. Couldn't walk 10 feet without being bothered by some timeshare jerk.

That sucks. Never had that problem, and we stayed there.

Interesting. That end was pretty bad with it. Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, they were nuts.

Didn't have that issue anywhere else though. Well, except the Golden Nugget, but it wasn't as obnoxious there.

Excalibur sucked to begin with IMO. We walked in, took about 10 steps, and walked out. Our preferred was Mandelay and Bellagio.

I liked Bellagio a lot. First place where I realized that major cities don't sleep, because getting dinner at midnight was totally acceptable and normal.

Caesar's was over-the-top and touristy, even for Vegas (though I had some fantastic fried calamari at Wolfgang Puck's branch there). Mirage was fine, saw Danny Gans there a few years before he died (great show, never heard a Rod Stewart impression that good), and ate at an authentic Chinese place that was very good. Venetian was similar to Caesar's - meh. What little I recall of MGM was that it was vast and a little too "modern"/family oriented. Mandelay was too fake and Tropicana was too old.

Also made our way downtown, and the Nugget was alright. The shopping/walking district was, well...shopping.

Venetian was great, although all we did was take in the structure/art/layout. Mirage was meh, except for the Brazilian restuarant we were at. MGM was puke. Never got to Caesar's or Tropicana. Mandelay was pretty cool. New enough to be good, not touristy enough to be annoying. Sort of the upper class suburb of Bellagio/Wynn/etc.

Almost forgot about Luxor - cool exterior, but interior seemed dark and weird.

Seen that in the liquor store many times and thought about it, but didn't want to commit to a whole fifth and can't seem to get a mini or even a pint.

Dude, Woodford.......think Homer and a donut, only better.
