Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

If you ever get the chance, I recommend trying Mt. Gay Extra Old Rum. Just ignore the name and try it (though I know someone will try and make a joke). I believe it's made in Barbados.

Though I'm not much of a rum drinker and probably would not spend $30 for a fifth of it, I just might have to go back to the liquor store and get a few more mini bottles for the summer months while they are on special. It's smooth and oaked like a good bourbon, but still has that molasses/brown sugar/vanilla thing that rum should have. One could probably drink it neat, though a splash of Coke is good too (it only needs an ounce, maybe two).

And BPH, that's a good deal as long as your buddies know what they are doing. One mishandled batch and you'll get a fizzy, sour, infected mess.

That is a good rum.

And just remembered: Ommengang (sp?) Three Philosophers is awesome. (thanks, GLM!)

Ommegang is awesome, period. So many American brewers try to merely imitate Belgian beers for the masses, but Ommegang actually makes Belgian beer.

I've heard good things in general about Mount Gay, but don't think I've ever bought a bottle. Maybe that'll have to happen this summer.

Asked about that - my friend assured me he'd washed every bottle by hand. ;) It doesn't sound too difficult to make sure every surface is clean, he said it only took 3 hours or so to get everything ready to put into the fermenter. It's tempting to skip a couple sanitizing steps, but that's a sure way to waste $30 and a batch.

It's classy, too. It has a cork. ;)

I only had a taste of the Three Philosophers, but now it's on my "experimental" list when I go to the store. They sell it at a place near me, where we found the TP.

2/3 of my handle of Beam is down. Beam takes a while to go through. :p

What's the deal on Sat? I bet if you and I were around, we could kill it.
I have a family thing starting at like 2, after that, I don't know, I'll probably be back home and up for killing a bottle Jim Beam.

Too bad some micros don't understand that concept. When I first started to seriously get into beer, I nearly gave up on Founders after two straight infected six packs. They seem to have solved the problem though, which is great because I have never had anything less than 'good' beer from them (other than the infected ones).

Well, it should be interesting. Maybe we can find some fodder for another youtube video. :D

We could just get some lawn chairs, sit across the street from block E and video tape the senanicans that go on there. It would probably be a youtube classic. We might also get shot.

"I don't fight muthaf*a, I BLAST!!!!!"

In hindsight, what a great quote to hear firsthand. :o

I do have some Scotch left.....although some of that will be killed on Fri.

I'm still disappointed that the GPL tailgate didn't have the Bourbon Imperial Ale homebrew this year. It's made with Maker's Mark. Yes, it tastes like an angel's halo.
Well, Uncle Matt is unemployed... can't always have the good stuff.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, drinking. :(

Re: Official Drinking Thread Pt 5: Four Horsemen + Jerry: It's called The Voltron!

I'm with FTB&G.

I was at the liquor store today, came across the rum that was mentioned earlier, Mt. Gay, bought a bottle even though I'm not a big rum fan. It isn't half bad. I still prefer the bourbon, but I could drink this rum.

I also got American Honey because it is amazing and now I'm drinking Beam and cokes again.

I shouldn't drink too much tonight, I have to be up tomorrow morning.

Hehehe, "mount gay".

It's pretty good rum, in addition to having a very funny name.
