Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

This makes sense, and I agree Travis has affected him more than anything during his time at BU (don't forget that also happened against a team named ND) so I'll accept that as the reasoning, though I still don't understand why they wouldn't raise it at the first exhibition game since that'd be the first time they take the ice and the difference between exhibition games is inconsequential.

No one from St. Francis Xavier is worth impressing. :p

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

i know that this topic has been sufficiently beaten to death, but i just heard that the banner raising was not moved because it was more convenient for players families or anything like that. i heard that parker, being the superstitious guy that he is, just wont allow it to happen on October 20. apparently the significance of the date was realized after they had announced the banner raising for October 20.

Then he should have talked to Scarlet. She picked up on the date as soon as the rumor of a home opener against Notre Dame on October 20th surfaced.

BU Hockey: Superstition

I am surprised no one in the athletics department realized this until after the announcement was made. I also made the connection the first time I heard the home opener would be on Oct. 20. Perhaps they did make the connection and still planned to go ahead with it but thought better of it later.

I still think there has to be a better time to raise the banner than before the U-18 game. any word on how ticket sales are going? I'll probably go but haven't bought tickets yet.

just finished watching CandyCanes' season recap dvd... and I cannot recommend this highly enough!

If you're a BU hockey fan and haven't gotten this yet, you're missing out big time. kind of sad that BU hasn't produced a video like this on its own, but hey what can you do. glad we have someone to fill the gap

Agreed, it's excellent. He allowed me the privilege to preview it a couple of times to add some input, and it was great even in the early stages. Well done sir. Hopefully BU doesn't drop the ball and just create some one minute highlight clip with shipping up to boston dubbed over.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Just watched 'canes highlight reel last night.
Awesomeness of the the third degree! Thanks for doing it.

I also got my season highlight DVD from cc99. I cannot recommend this enough. cc99 - outstanding job! I've been joking that my ridiculously bad gambling experience last month in Vegas and now my severe lack of celebrity interaction at the Emmy Awards on Sunday was God looking down on me and saying "Scarlet, I gave you BU winning the title this year. That's all you get." :) And after watching that DVD, I am TOTALLY OK with that! I just got chills and was anxious and nervous and excited all over again. Thank you for putting this together!!

I will join Scarlet in endorsing this product. Very awesome indeed. Just another way to remember forever the greatness that was last season.

- Highlight DVD is phenomenal - nice job 'canes. I love the print on the jacket, and nice job using the Lightscribe DVD's. I love the photo of the GWG on it.

7th-ed, amazing work.

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

I'm not sure you guys need to hear another compliment of cc99's work, but it's just incredible. Not just from the hockey-let's-never-forget-this-amazing-season standpoint. If you noticed, he did some pretty sweet editing, timing the goals with notes in the music. Not something the average BU Hockey fan would pick up on, but something I noticed and appreciated. Anyway, I can't recommend this DVD highly enough, definitely worth the small fee he's asking for.

CC: fantastic fantastic fantastic dvd. The praises have already been sung, just wanted to add my voice. Well done.

I'm not a FoH member and I got the letter. Honestly, I've long been on the fence about FoH and have sort of been waiting for someone to either directly or inadvertently convince me to pony up.

But like Bomber wrote, for those who may be considering FoH for a donation, small things can easily tilt the decision in the wrong direction.

I have been a member of the Friends for as long as I can remember going back to when the dues were $10 and you made a donation to the scholarship fund! People that are involved are trying to do their best; no one is full time. I

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun (most of the time) fitting it all together.

Again, if anyone is convinced by Scarlet and now wants one ;) , please send an email to BUhighlights@gmail.com

Concur on the great job 'canes did with the highlights. Some of the music was "foreign" to me but it was a pleasure to revisiti things especially the playoffs. Interestingly, save for Ohio State we were in some tough battles throughout.

Can't wait for the new season.

Quick Matt Gilroy update from the Rangers website:

Looks like #97 will definitely be skating for the Rangers come opening night. Rangers assigned D Bobby Sanguinetti to Hartford, trimming the roster to 23.

Gilroy was also named the 2009 Sjoberg Award winner as the top rookie in Rangers training camp as voted on by the media.

So the next question is, when they start selling Gilroy shirts?

Re: Official Boston University 2009-2010 Pre-season thread - Let the banners rise!

Shattenkirk ranked #27 on Hockeysfuture.com list of top 50 prospects.

27. Kevin Shattenkirk

Shattenkirk continues to excel at Boston University. The heady offensive-minded defenseman is much stronger than his 5’11 frame would indicate. Shattenkirk has proven his worth in the clutch at both the collegiate level with a national championship already under his belt as a sophomore, and the international level as a premier member of the United States U20 World Junior Championships team. The smooth skater returns to BU where he will continue to refine the defensive side of his game. With the Avalanche going through a rebuild, the 19-year-old Shattenkirk may get a contract sooner rather than later.

But he's not 19 anymore.

He had another strong game last night. Poked checked a puck away from Ovechkin (told the interviewer "I closed my eyes"), but when caught up ice on a rush, the forward didn't drop back and it cost NY a goal. During the second intermission, after Mike Sullivan was interviewed, Gilroy narrated the video clip of Bonino's game-tying goal in DC. Gilroy's already a better interview than Drury; he's got humor. ;)

He said "I closed my eyes" when asked about the 3-on-1 he broke up in Boston, too. Maybe this isn't such a bad strategy?

From the post-game press conference after BU beat Miami:

“Colby, you closed your eyes.” - Gilroy, interrupting game-winning- goal-scorer Colby Cohen’s explanation of how the shot found the net.

BU Hockey: Eyes Wide Shut
