Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed!

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

2 First Rounders!!!! wow! Biggs was to be expected. From what I gather, Conner was surprising because of the unknowns. Either way, it's pretty cool.

Was this year's draft low on college talent? Or was the Junior talent simply superior? It just seems that 4 college players out of the first 30 seems low based on the talent level that is both in and coming into the college game.

Also, is it me or does Scott Burnside from ESPN look like Fat Bastard went on Weight Watchers?

Wow, what a night for Miami. Miami was all over the TSN broadcast. First, Murphy goes well ahead of expected and Pierre McGuire says something like "he needs three or four years of development and he is going to a very good program at Miami." Then Biggs goes to Toronto and Brian Burke who knows Miami better than any GM. I believe it was McGuire that also mentioned the Miami ties for Burke and they mentioned Rico. I don't think it could have worked out better for these kids and Miami. If McGuire is right, Phoenix knows Murphy is a few years away (he looked like he was about 15 on TV), and I think the OHL risk and leaving too early risk goes down for Biggs with Burke as his GM. You know Burke trusts Rico and I believe they will not pressure him to leave before he is ready. That might be in a year, but if it is, I think it will be becuase the family, Rico, and Burke think it is the right time. That's all you can ask. I was worried about an organization like the Kings getting him. All JMHO.

Anyway, overall I think a great night for Miami. Should be interesting to see Day 2 and who else goes. And, don't forget incoming freshman Jimmy Mulin was drafted last year and had a a great year in the USHL. This class is getting more interesting all the time. :)

Got to be concerned about Murphy's comments about major junior in the USCHO article.

Obviously comes with the territory of pulling in elite recruits, it will just be very disheartening if it does happen our first time in this position. Just let us enjoy it!!

And we have a roster

Kuraly not coming until 2012, and whatever happened with Mantha last season seems to have become permanent.

I assume this means Knapp has decided to hang around unless they still have time to get McKay to Oxford if he is still waiting on word from Buffalo.

Also, it appears somone in the athletic department decided to be honest with the tape measure this year. Quite a few of our players appear to have dropped an inch or two over the summer.

ND
WMU
UND
UMD
DU
CC
UNO

Yikes that will be a grind. Best of luck making the tournament every year, but man that would be some exciting week to week hockey.

Fingers crossed I guess. The alternative is not too appealing.

Guess we will have to see if blashill gets the redwings job. If he does, does the super league bid go away?

That would defiantly be an uncomfortable meeting, assuming they already have an invite. If they could maintain their recent success without Blashill good for them, if not...every league needs a pecking order...

Re: Official 2011 Miami Offseason Thread: Hawkheads face left and no scalping allowed

Ironic that if this rumored "super league" had happened 5-10 years ago Miami would be one of the "have nots"/"leftovers"...some short memories there in Oxford...

I have to think the bid has more to do with whether the downtown Kalamazoo arena project either gets approved or some of the billionaires in town throw their hands up and build it without any public help and just keeps all the revenue for themselves and Western (the plans have it on WMU owned land, so it's tacitally approved by the university)

That arena project will not be decided within the time frame for the proposed conference. I don't think the Blashill situation affects the conference choice one way or the other.

Not really sure why you will insinuate that any Miami poster is not well aware of that fact...
