Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I can't help but think that tomorrow's CBJ/DET matchup is a bit of a trap game for the Wings. C-bus has been in some close ones, and will want results vs. Detroit.

And it's Jimmy Howard Fathead decal night. Meaning that Conkblock should get the nod.

Last time a team I liked had a player in that situation... well... the Brewers don't do bobbleheads for pitcher (on a day they pitch) anymore for a reason.

Well, that changes things. 0.5 seconds left, the Wild tie it up.

Edit: they reviewed and added time. 1.2 seconds left.

MN gets another fake win over EDM. And the streak continues.

Good win for the Bruins tonight. Seguin is playing consistently well. Very encouraging.

I was at this game. He played great, along with Chara. It was good to see Seguin continue his play and really the offense come alive. Bergy and Lucic also got their first goals of the year. Also, Pouliot is a waste of space. Guy looks lost as can be on the ice.

NBA Commissioner David Stern has Gary Bettman envy.
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/44983528/ns/sports-nba/

For years, when each league moved closer to crowning a champion, the NBA view was that Gary Bettman's little ice sport was convenient filler programming, the NHL taking the available dates while the NBA reloaded, hockey's miniscule television deal and even smaller ratings hardly making it a worthy competitor, let alone business model.
...
uddenly, the Memphis Grizzlies want to be the Nashville Predators, the Minnesota Timberwolves want to be the Minnesota Wild, and, as we've suspected since the start, Ted Leonsis' Washington Wizards want to be Ted Leonsis' Washington Capitals. (Of course, the Toronto Raptors have always wanted to be the Toronto Maple Leafs.)

The NBA, based on Thursday's Silver-Holt media session, apparently wants to be nothing more than the NHL.

Gary Bettman and Don Fehr better be having some meetings NOW to push through the next CBA with no issues. This is PRIME chance to leap ahead of the NBA. It's not like the NBA didn't try to woo NHL fans during their lockout.

Keep dreaming. Fehr keeps saying that he's still catching up to speed on the issues. They'll screw this up somehow.

Have none of these commissioners seen how long it's taken MLB to win back fans? It's closing in on 20 years.

Bad enough having to watch the Leafs bomb in Boston, but I had to watch and listen to Edwards and Brick gloat about it.

If you didn't like him before, you better like him now:

BizNasty just tweeted that yesterday was the first game where he will bring a homeless family to a Coyote's game and feed them as well. That's a real unique, and awesome way to help the community.

Any word if the family tried to scalp those tickets and use the money for something more useful?

That depends. I think you underestimate how valuable a night of normalcy could be for a family in that situation, especially for the kids. For a couple hours they don't have to worry about all of the other **** going on and just get to have a hot dog and a coke and watch some hockey. In the long run, that $120 that Biz would give them isn't going to go all that far, I would think the 3 hours of happiness is just as valuable if not more valuable. I think biznasty is doing a great thing here.

I don't disagree that he is doing a good thing. Just seems like an odd thing to give considering the needs of the people.

Like BigBlue said, it's a "normal" night out that these families may not have had in weeks, months, or maybe over a year.

A chance for a whole family to spend a night out together without worrying how they'll afford it. A hot meal (not from a soup kitchen/donation center, even if it's arena food vouchers) and tickets (likely his comp seats, but the 'Yotes may offer better seats).

Sure these families may be wondering how they're going to juggle whatever payments they need to make, how to step out, but he's giving these families a healthy escape from these problems for three hours. Certainly a welcomed relief for the kids who wouldn't be able to attend, and parents who need to give some hope to their kids.

Kudos to Biznasty on this one. :)

Plus, it's not like he's picking up the scraggliest homeless bum and giving him a luxury suite for the night just for his own personal laughs. :p

If you don't like to listen to Bruins fans gloating, you're on the wrong thread.

Yeah. Those kinds of homeless people exist so you can pay them to fight each other.
