Re: Official 2011-2012 NHL Season Thread: 2 Sedins, No Cup!

I had said all off season that Crosby is done. When he came back, I was surprised, and yes pleased (I wish no serious injury on anyone). But we are watching Lindros V2. I'm gonna stand by that statement. He is done. One more hit will really make it official.

I've never really liked Crosby, but I hope this isn't true..although as it has unfolded, I somewhat share your sentiment..

He'll make an ok analyst for CBC one day, but thats about it.

I may dislike Crosby, but he's the most marketable person in hockey. The sport needs him. I really hope he's OK and he can live his life normally with or without hockey.

How many documented concussions has he had? I've heard that when you get to five or six "documented" cases, they sit you down and start to lay out your post-playing career. He's up to at least two, maybe three now in the NHL. Not counting any times he may have had his bell rung in Major Juniors.

Shut him down for the year again. Wrap him in bubble wrap, and let him get in shape over the summer.

*edit* Mark Olver of the Colorado Avalance is having the same concussion recovery issues, why isn't there an #olverwatch for him? Why did no one give a * about David Perron?

Blues' fans cared about Perron! And we're hoping that he won't run into the same thing Crosby apparently has.

The short answer is that they're not Sidney Crosby: not captains, not Stanley Cup winners, didn't score the golden goal for Team Canada. They don't have the national coverage and name recognition of #87, but their teams and fans are keeping tabs on them nonetheless.

Even shorter answer:

Who are Perron and Olver?

So, on the West Coast this year, the LA Kings have been seriously underachieving and it finally led to the firing of Terry Murray. One of Murray's good points was that he was considered a "players coach".

So, Dean Lombardi knows this hire is important to him keeping his job. He's going back to his old well, and probably hiring Darryl Sutter. Not a players coach.

This.

People who at least know what a puck is know who Crosby is. They also think Perron is a brand of bottled water, and that Olver made tractors 50 years ago.

My high school hockey coach played at UMD and then in the pros..he was done after #4, no questions asked..

I know a lot of high school players are allowed three documented before playing careers are over.

Hey bronconick....remember when the Sharks won games? Yeah, that was cool. Though having about 10 goals so far this year with the goalie pulled sure is fun, too bad most of those were when we were down by 2 goals.

They're hard to watch, I'll say that much. Last second goals in a period, world's worst special teams, defenders randomly deciding that skating is too much work, basically every event in a hockey game gives me that sick churning feeling that disaster is on its way.

Worst part is I got in an argument on another board with a Sharks fan that seriously wanted to trade Marleau for Semin because the Sharks have no team speed and lack heart. o.O

The wrap around goal last night was a shining example of seeing a goal coming about 5 seconds before it happens. And I think Todd needs to tell Boyle that he's old and slow now, so just stick on the blue line instead of getting stuck behind the net and blindly flinging the puck back to the other team for an odd man rush.

Boyle needs the Lidstrom treatment right now. Lidstrom looked like *** (for him, which meant he was average) in the 1st half of 2009 and Detroit finally sat him down and told him they were taking him off the PK lines to save him for PP and 5x5, where he was still elite. One Norris later, etc... He needs to be down around 23-24 minutes, and the best way to do it is to give his PK time to younger defensemen. I mean hell, it's not like the PK can get any worse.
