Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

Even though Miami didn't repeat as the winners of the Mason Cup I'd say in the bigger picture the way things turned out this weekend may have been best for you. Winning the conference championship does has it's prestige but the National Championship is the big brass ring and I think the region you've been seeded in gives you a very good chance to advance. I feel sorry for Western, they got placed in what I think is the toughest regional and that's their reward for winning the CCHA? That could have been you if you were repeat Champs.

If we find ourselves Tampa-bound in another week, I will certainly agree with you. Not only did the seeding seemingly work out well for Miami, but the loss hopefully also put the team on notice that they have to be ready to go in every game from the opening puck drop. We'll find out this weekend if that lesson was taken to heart.

Agreed. As you saw in our second half of the season if you aren't mentally in a game you hamstring your physical ability to perform.

You feel sorry for Western? Their reward for winning the CCHA tournament was not a spot in the toughest regional, it was a chance to even play in the NCAA tournament. To win the National Championship you are going to have to play tough teams no matter the regional so I don't see any reason to feel sorry for Western.

Looking back now, it looks like we could have lost a game and basically been flipped with Michigan State and still in. I largely agree with you anyway.

What good does that do? Not much. As things stand, we beat the 3 best teams in the CCHA in the course of a month based on their overall work this season (ranked ahead in the PWR), we get a banner (of which we don't have that many and our fans have waited a quarter century since our last conference title),and likely some confidence. I mean, who the heck doesn't want to beat Michigan in Detroit?

So we have a tough draw on paper. If following the NCAA's have shown me anything, it's that there's no guarantees, not against the Atlantic Hockey champion much less anyone else. If we play well, we'll get our chance to survive and advance. We don't, we'll join 11 more teams this weekend having end of year meetings.

Re: Official 2011-2012 Miami Season Thread Part II: (OH) Yeah!

And so beings the longest week of the year (thus far).

I haven't seen Lowell play this season, but the main thing that jumps off their roster is size. We defientley have the edge in that department so we should be able to play our game, but if the guys get into penalty trouble early Lowell's power play is shooting at a very solid 21.5%. Hoping for WCHA crews working all the games in Bridgeport, everytime we end up with ECAC, Atlantic Hockey or HEA (if we advance) refs the pentalties seem to get more out of control than usual.

It's amazing that we will likley spend this week wondering who will get the start in net, which must seem absurd to any outsider looking at Cody/Connor's stats. For my money Rico will stick with Connor, but he really does just seem to trust Cody more (starting him Friday in Ann Arbor ). I would have liked to see Connor out there on Saturday against BG, if for nothing more than a game to get back into his groove.

It also looks like Lowell takes very few penalities...which may be a good thing for us :)

I was just going to post something very similar to this. Size could be a huge advantage for us this Friday. As for the reffing situation my gut says ECAC refs, I just hope they allow us to play a physical game and don't make this a special teams battle.

Was waiting for a quote as such from Miami. Lowell has faired middle of the road against big/ physical teams. Schools like Uconn and Merrimack have given Lowell trouble. It really depends how aggressive Miami will be. This is definitely a strength for Miami.

Lowell is VERY balanced. Scoring can come from anywhere. Lowell has very skilled O players with solid D and goaltending. They play puck possession hockey... Cary the puck deep into the zone, cycle, etc

Is Miami a boring trap team or do they forecheck?

I think that may be the biggest thing that surprises you. Miami isn't just a big team that sits back. They relentlessly pressure and have some boys with some serious wheels and hands.

This actually would be great to see, because after watching Providence come into our arena and just play boring hockey, I'm looking forward to seeing some entertaining hockey. Nothing against PC, they did what they had to to win the series, but man was that excruciating hockey to watch.

Does Western winning the Mason Cup, and beating us in the process, mean we have to relinquish the MAC Cup and with it the McDonalds value menu cupons?

Sad. Sad. Day.

Great news guys!

Our game on Friday is on after Sportscenter U!

That means we won't be missing an entire period due to the most boring/longest lacrosse game ever!

Can't say the same for Saturday, as it follows a first round game, but at least we can breathe a sigh of relief.

We didn't even get to see the Paulazzo goal last year!

I'm just glad we didn't end up as one of the ESPN 3 games.

Our thread tags are officially out of control. I like it.

Dammit, man. You got to do this right.

"Good news everybody!"
