Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

No offense, RHM, but I don't want Miami to steal a 1 seed from Miami. Stealing it from Michigan, though, would be very sweet. :p

I completely agree with you. I was pulling for BG so we have the chance to secure a couple more TUC wins while advancing to the Joe. I know many other people (JD included) wanted NMU because they would probably be the easier match-up, but I'd rather have a bigger challenge with higher stakes.

I'll be breakin' out the tuba this weekend to welcome the Nanooks to Oxford. Maybe I'll even bring some Bubblicious! :D

haha good catch, it was late when I typed that.

The whole "easier opponent" debate makes zero sense. There are no "easy" opponents. And at this point you have to look at what helps you in the PWR, that is the logical thing to do. NMU would of had minimal help for us in the pwr and if we were to lose, it isn't out of the question they have done it to us before, it would have far more negative impact than it would against alaska. NMU did finish ahead of Alaska in the conf. standings so Im not sure how you can say they would be an "easier opponent". Miami is where they are for a reason if they take care of their own business this is the best scenerio for them and that is all that matters. Of course there are a lot of If's we are talking about but Miami is in a great position right now to help impact their seeding tremendously.

I just hope that the boys notice the opportunity that they have, because frankly BG just handed them a gift. Union is playing a non TUC so they don't have much room to make big improvements. Merrimack is playing Maine, a team we beat and who swept them two weeks ago, so we have a big chance there to make up ground. I told '95 on friday this would be the best case scenerio just didn't think it would happen. I for one am pumped that Miami has this chance and really hope they take advantage of it. IF Miami win's their next 4 games, two against alaska and one against potentially notre dame and Michigan, they will steal a #1 seed. And yes it would be stealing because at the start of Feb. they were #19 in the PWR, it would be one of the largest jumps I have ever seen in the PWR in the final two months.

What if we just go ahead and win our next 8 games? Works for me.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

I think people like me who were rooting on NMU were doing so for a few reasons, one being Michigan State has more of a shot at beating Michigan at Yost than BG, and having Goofus and the "polkacello?" coming back down to Oxford again. We haven't had much look against Alaska Fairbanks at home recently (our last 4 home series being splits), but granted we should have swept this year if not for another 3rd period collapse. Either way, glad we have the opportunity to improve our PWR with another TUC coming to town. Another couple losses to Maine by Merrimack and they'll drop down, even though we already own the comparison over them. If we sweep UAF and Union gets dropped this weekend we'll jump them (due to RPI and TUC). Lots of opportunity, lets just take care of our own business and get ready for Fairbanks.

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Latest from John Boyle. Boys have only played 2 games since Feb 12. They HAVE to be chomping at the bit. But, as I said over in the Alaska forum, the best chance for the Nanooks is to throw everything they have at Miami on Friday night, try to steal game 1, then take their chances in games 2 and 3 to try to get one of two.

Think you mean luck. But Miami is 6-4-2 in the last 5 years against Alaska and only 8-4-1 against Northern Michigan and in the only playoff matchup the last 5 years NMU beat Miami so there isn't much difference and isn't a good enough reason to want a matchup that doesn't favor Miami.

Miami will jump Union even if both teams sweep. Miami Will get more of an RPI boost beating Alaska than Union will beating St. Lawrence and they will get 2 TUC wins to Union's 0.

And it really doesn't matter who can go into yost and win, I want to play Michigan. We need that matchup for PWR purposes. Miami can't jump Michigan for a #1 seed without beating them in the conf. tourny. Miami is the best team in the CCHA, and they are playing well. If Miami can keep playing the way they are it doesn't matter who they are playing they should win. Lets embrace the matchup and not look for the "easy" way out all the stinking time. Teams like North Dakota and Boston College dont ever look for the "easy" way out they want to play anyone and everyone and think they can beat them. Miami belongs in that category now so why don't we as fans embrace it like the team has. This whole "I want this team over that because it is a better match up" is hogwash. I thought we had gotten over this already a few years back. Sorry for the rant, it just gets old reading some of the same old garbage on here year after year and I would of thought some on here would of gotten it by now.

Ok got that off my chest and won't bring it up again, hopefully dont have too. Look forward to a great weekend!

That would be there best option. But that is hard to do with as long of a trip as it is. However I can say the last two weeks of practice have been pretty intense and I don't think the layoff will be an issue. I actually think Miami benefits from it. Playing only 2 games in 4 weeks gives this team time to get fully healed and will be healthy for the playoff run. Thats my take on it, may just be trying to find the positive in it but the first period friday will be a nice test. Would expect Miami to be somewhat passive and feel things out.

I must have missed the part when I said I wanted Michigan to play Michigan state because Sparty would be easier. Its funny when your rivals lose (see: ohio state). I don't know if anyone is afraid of Michigan especially with Cappy out. What are we, 5-1 against them the last two seasons? Even if we were to stay a 2 seed or be a 3 or 4, I think its safe to say we would be the most dangerous low seed given our talent and post season experience, but I don't think Hobey Miele would let us drop that far ;). Good thing about this past month of only two games compared to the winter break is the boys have been on campus the whole time and practicing. Rico will have them good to go this weekend.

as an rit fan i like this potential matchup. loved you guys at the frozen four.

Feeling is mutual! You guys made an otherwise horrible weekend much more bearable. Definitely made an impression on the Miami fans. In fact, I believe there was a "rip rip rip, rap rap rap" cheer in Oxford just this past month!

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

So - I pretty much lurk most of the year, but it's playoff time - and wanted to say congrats to our boys for another fine year, and more honors coming in.

I've gotta say, though, I'm pretty worried about this weekend. I think we lose the goaltending battle, frankly ... and our guys seem too inconsistent this year .... though I admit, I'm spoiled :)

Re: Official 2010-2011 Miami season Thread: 3rd times a charm???

Just wanted to let everyone know that Ryan Jones was in the capital tonight with his Edmonton Oilers. Playing pretty well, though my Caps are up 2-0 in the 2nd. I am happy to report that Jones is back to his old ways of impersonating Sampson.

Can we committ to this now please....I would be beyond estatic if Miami drew this bracket. A merrimack team that is struggling and has zero tournament experience as well as probably the most overrated team in the country (besides Union) in Yale. Wow I love the position Miami is in right now!

Are you being serious here?? I can't tell but if you honestly believe we lose the goaltending battle you are truly mistaken. In case you haven't noticed, Cody Reichard has only been charged with 1 loss in the second half and that was to Ohio St. where he gave up 1 goal. He has only given up more than 3 goals twice in his last 9 starts with a 1.67 gaa and a 93% sv% going 5-1-2 with a shut out. And Connor Knapp has given up 3 or more goals 3 times since the start of december (8 games) going 4-3-1 with a shut out having a 2.25 gaa and a 90% sv% numbers less than Reichard but cody played more games and will most likely be the starter. Compared to Alaska's Scott Greenham who was 4-5-1 in his last 10 with a 2.7 gaa and a .898 sv % during that time...Numbers speak for themselves over the last 10 games who has the advantage...
