Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

If Rawlings stands on his head and wins us a beanpot, well I'll consider the season a success. It is all about the big game, and Thiessen always seemed to come up just a little short, as in grea the first 59 minutes and then, well, we all know what happens the last minute.

If Brad was a BU goalie or BC it would be reasonable to assume that he would have won several Beanpots and perhaps several National Championships.

Im not saying that Brad wasn't good. In fact, I agree that he is the best goalie ever to play for NU, and you're right he probably would have won a beanpot or Hockey East title if at BU or BC. I'm just saying he never really came up with the one big win. Below I listed all of the major tournament games that Thiessen played in (I excluded holiday tournaments because there are too many variables associated with them). Our composite record was 5-11 with one clinching win (UMass in the HE Quarters last season). We gave up 2.88 goals per and scored 1.94 goals per. You can make the arguement that a better offensive team like BU or BC would have scored more goals and therefore won more games, and I will agree with you. BUT, my point is that we never ran into a win, we never had a hot goalie who just had one game where he played out of his mind. You would think we would have just gotten "lucky" some year. So thats why I'll be happy if Rawlings can have two great games on consecutive Mondays in February this year, regardless of how the season turns out.

article about our injury woes:

with this many players out I would be thrilled with two points this weekend. at this point we should just hope the team can get healthy by next semester, any HE points before then will be a welcome surprise

God that's depressing. Is this just terrible luck? At a certain point coincidence starts to become habit. Do we need to find a new conditioning coach?

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

My personal opinion.. about half the shots that BU made were okay to weak & i think Rawlings himself will acknowledge that. But.. the other half were not - they were solid shots sometimes with screens & overall Rawlings played superbly to have a shutout.. which Maine did not accomplish in their 'W'. He was aggressive all night & took away any opportunities on any play, early.

Any way you slice it.. he had an incredible gm. I also give our D credit for the 'W' & shutout. Well, it doesn't matter what anyone says to the media now.. its in the books (also, Parker is a great motivator.. he is using this as more for motivating his team than anything us NU fans need read into..) :)

I agree with this. All of it.

You can't really blame anything besides possibly muscle strains or tears on the conditioning coach. As much as we always like to have someone to blame ACL tears, illness, and impact injuries are, 9 times out of 10, no ones fault, unless the impact injury was a deliberate cheap shot.

Our injuries have just been bad luck, and I agree with you 100%. Quailer torn an ACL, Guzior is probably ligament damage, Muench has his arm in a sling (so its not a muscle strain), Hewkin has a lower body (ankle?) injury, Driscoll make have broken his hand, McNeely has a head injury, and I forget what the deal is with Maley. There is nothing you can do about any of these as a coach/trainer. I remember a few years ago the Yankees fired their conditioning coach when 4 or 5 guys went down with groin strains, but as you can see, NU's injuries aren't falling into any sort of pattern here.

Tent adjacent to Matthews Arena/This Saturday.
"Husky spirit and unified support for our athletic teams is in abundance at FanFest, where a fun and relaxed atmosphere takes center stage while alumni, family, students, and friends get pumped up to root for the Huskies. Come join fellow members of the Northeastern community before the men’s hockey team faces the University of Maine. Stop by the tent next to Matthews for live music, great food and drink, and plenty of Husky camaraderie.
There’s no better way to gear up for the big game!
Free admission; cash bar and concessions a la carte. Advance registration is required."
NU had a FanFast a few years ago before a Hockey Game and it was great!
The next year I wanted another one, but they said it costs over $10,000 and if hockey donations increased then they would have another one. See what 25 wins can do!

I'm annoyed that it's 21+

why not just give wristbands to those who want to drink?

This isn't like baseball (hello Met fans) where injuries resulting from practice and/or a game are generally infrequent - it's part of the nature of the sport. I don't know much about NU's training staff but it's difficult to blame them for injuries resulting from getting hit during a game or in practice. BU has had a similar number of albeit different injuries this season and you won't find one person calling for Boyle and the trainer's head.

...it isn't 21+. The cash bar will ID.. but i know there's families (with kids) going to the tent. Only problem would be the weather.. supposed to be a windy/ rainy day. Hope it works out.. especially inside the arena later in the evening :)

I'd love it if you're right.

Well, out for 10 weeks is MUCH better than out for the year, which most of us were afraid of.
