Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

First period was decent...

and then there were penalties. DUMB penalties, as usual... McNeely's looked a bit like the player turned his back at the last second to force a hit from behind, but it is what it is...

I don't blame Rawlings for the loss, but I do blame him for sevral of those goals. (at least 2, probably 3)

Did Mountain make one save in his ten minutes? He got a lot of time with the puck behind the net, but he wansn't ever really tested. I am still curious about what he can offer, but Cronin knows best. We'll see what happens.

I ask again- what does anyone think of McLaughlin??

Don't think I've seen this mentioned, but there is an equipment sale, including sweaters (in multiple designs) in the lobby during the women's and men's games today and the women's tomorrow. The sweaters (names removed) are only $75-125 (or maybe 150) which is cheap for game-worn. Not everything is on display so stop and ask.

too bad I just bought my jersey a few weeks ago... :-(

I love the new black ones though, so I'm still happy. Cool though, I'm sure a lot of people will love this

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Someone please tell me McLaughlin didn't look as hurt as I thought he did...
It looked pretty bad. I'm still curious as to how that wasn't 5 and the gate, but at that point in the game, I was too apathetic to yell at the officials (Because that would have made a difference  ).

Here's hoping for less of an abortion tonight...though I likely won't be able to see it, I'll try to avoid infecting the DogHouse with whatever it is that I've come down with.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

i was actually pleased with the way the team played in the first period. after that it was all downhill, but i think that has to do with fatigue from playing with such a short bench. thats when the stupid penalties start to occur. however, i'm not too sure how those two hits by NU resulted in game misconducts and the maine one didnt. also, i dont think any of those goals were Rawlings fault as he was hung out to dry quite a bit.

its just going to be a painful stretch for this team the rest of the year until they can get healthy. the only thing that sucks is a ticket use to be less than $10 so it wasnt a big deal when they lost.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Injury Report:
Drew Munech, could be back next week.
J.P. Maley, should come back soon.
Steve Quailer, medical red shirt.
Randy Guizor, medical red shirt, will attend graduate school next year and play for NU., When has that happened before? Smart coaching.
Jim Driscoll , could be out a month.
Other players are sick.
Players must cut down on the stupid penalties. Dennis McAuley had many penalties, but in four years I don’t recall any 5 minute disqualifications, and he was a force.

Edit: Wade MacLeod broke his wrist in Friday's game.

i thought the call was about right. he definitely drove with the elbow but the call is at the discretion of the ref.. as to minor, major, or disqualification. the major doesn't carry an automatic game misconduct like hitting from behind would (also: slew-footing, spearing, swinging the stick, and butt-ending) and certainly didnt warrant a game DQ.

for that matter, it even has an interpretation in the rulebook

A.R.: What criteria should be used in determining whether to assess a minor, major or disqualification penalty for elbowing?

RULING: A minor penalty should be assessed in most situations. When
the elbow is used in a flagrant or violent manner, a major penalty should be
assessed. Whenever injury results from fouling an opponent with an elbow,
a disqualification penalty must be assessed.

Elbowing penalties may be assessed as minor, major, or disqualification
penalties, even though physical contact with an opponent may not have
occurred. (Example: excessive roughness)

Just for the record, I believe the call was boarding, not elbowing.

I couldn't care less if they gave him the 10...the 5 was what mattered to me.

so it was. even easier, since boarding (which actually includes elbowing in the definition) does not carry an automatic game misconduct and doesnt even elevate to potential disqualification like elbowing

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

5 goals with 10 different players getting points. Hopefully, the offensive explosion in the 3rd period will carry over to PC next weekend. Nice win tonight, but we are still only 2-4 in HE so we need at least 3, hopefully 4 points next weekend.

Rawlings looked good tonight, not much he could do about the 2 Maine goals. It is easy to see the talent that made him last year's BCHL MVP. He now just needs to put together a string of consistent starts.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I know wade is out for some time with the wrist, but I think getting Tuckerman on track was a big positive for NU tonight. We have needed some offense the last few games, and I think the big thing for this team, is playing with some momentum on their side. The atmosphere at Matthews with a lead will be hard for anyteam to overcome. We have been horrible most of the year, but we find ourselves two games (four points) out of first with PC coming up next week. If we take four points (a big IF I admit) we will find ourself in good shape considering how many injuries we have had. NU needs a good team offense, we have the talent but the shots have not been finding the back of the net. I think most people would agree that offense was not the concern coming into the season, and if it gets on track we could suprise. This program has a lot of young players right now, and its a matter of when, and not if, they gain confidence and experince. Things are looking up (for now at least).

We had a lot of visible players tonight. I know Cronin talks about this a lot. I think we need to find our identity and we may have found it tonight.

Rawlings is definitely talented, and I've seen a whole lot of improvement in his positioning as the year has gone on. He is still a little slow side to side, but the issue is not talent. He is figuring out how to do the little things to limit the opposition's chances. This kid could be scary good in a couple years, its just a matter of how hard he is willing to work. He can be a real stud if he has the drive to work on the little things that most guys overlook, or dont work on in practice because they aren't flashy or fun to practice.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Good to see Lipinski, who scored the first Maine goal, get one for himself. Saw him get chewed out pretty good by Cronin on the bench. I'll take 2 pts, but lets hope we don't see another performance like Friday night. Whats up with the Doghouse kids (not first row guys obviously) leaving as soon as time expires. I mean, you can't stay another minute to cheer the guys off the ice? Do these kids need to beat the traffic? Got a quiche cooking?
