3-3/Based on what he has shown so far, Garrett Vermeersch, is NU’s top frosh and perhaps the team’s MVP. He had a great game tonight. The power play is better because of his play!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I didn't actually see him go down, but saw that he was on the ice for a little bit tonight. anybody see what happened? (i'm not even sure it was him, since I had a bad view of that corner of the ice where I was). MacLeod blocked a hard shot off his skate late in the game too, but I think he should be fine for next Friday. He'll probably have a solid bruise on his foot though.

Not quite as strong as last night, but not bad either. The last 5-10 minutes of the game they didn't look all that good (plus OT), but they held on for the tie. If they'd stayed strong for a full 60, I think they could have won that game. Beaudry looked good though, so who knows.

Vermy got hit, remained on the ice for a bit and then proceeded to skate off on his own power. He returned to the game later, so I'd presume he's fine.

Mediocre effort tonight, but I'll take the 3-pt weekend. Vermeerch appeard to be slashed, unless my eyes were playing tricks on me. I'm still praying to God that when JP Maley and/or Driscoll comes/come back, Mike Hewkin will be a perpetual healthy scratch, he cost us at least one goal tonight...In fairness, Ellement wasn't great either.

Decent turnout by NU fans tonight too...Wish I could say the same for PC.

Actually, not really.

(copied from the series thread because I'm lazy)

Yes, we need the clowns that choog doesn't want to sit with to irritate more of our players. New had a great night.

Can we hire the Dog House to come to more games? Granted our student section got lazy and started dropping F-bombs and generally humiliating themselves, but the atmosphere was awesome and two fanbases trying to out chant one another was awesome.

This team really does play better with Beaudry in net!

Bunyon sucks. But is that news to anyone?

Now go out there and WIN THE ****ING BEANPOT FOR ONCE!!! (wasn't paying attention the first four times, sorry)

I know this is obviously off topic but I just heard on the news that NU has just canned their football program and played their final game this weekend. That's a freakin shame. Really, really awful to see that happen to yet another Boston school like it did at BU and a real shame that NU fans didn't get a bit more notice to have a chance to see a final game.

is this for real? i can't find anything supporting it anywhere on the internet.

I can't say I'm too upset... I feel for the players, and I'm glad to hear that NU will honor thier scholarships...

I'm hoping the funding will bleed into the hockey and basketball programs now.

More scholarship opportunities? We'll see where this all leads...

RIP NU football, bound to be one of the few to miss thee....

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Sucks for the players... at least they get their scholarships and will get help from the Athletic Department in transfering if they want to.

I don't think it's a surprise to anyone though. The general concensus on campus was to cut the program. Football for Northeastern just wasnt drawing enough support.

I'm happy with the decision... I think it takes some balls to cut a footbal program. Good for Roby.

So, I guess we probably won't be hearing anymore "BU football" chants from the Dog House, eh?

Heard the news this morning. Sounds like you guys won't be getting anywhere near the "ZOMG!!!!!1!1!!! College football is SUCH a YOOOOGE part of college life - how can BU drop such an integral part of the college atmosphere????" garbage that commentators spewed when BU dropped its program. You're lucky in that regards. It's tough, but it sounds like you're kinda OK with the decision.

I've heard more positive reactions and people actually being happy about it (rather than just ok with it) than I've heard negative reactions. Personally I'd like to see what a new coach could have done...Rocky was awful...and try again for even maybe 2 years. If there's no improvement, then I'd say shut it down. I'll miss it but I'm not horribly disappointed, other than the fact that it makes us more like..."them" (shudders)

No offense, but I can't tell the difference anymore.

I think I'm more upset about this than pretty much anyone associated with Northeastern, except of course the football players. I didn't even root for them. In fact, I actively rooted against them. Sucks to lose not only a conference team but also a division one too. I'm probably one of the few people who can claim they saw multiple Northeastern road games in their final season of play.

Well, on the plus side, I'm 92% sure it's the first time that Northeastern has made the front page of espn.com...

You mean obnoxiously arrogant?

I'm sorry to see the football program go but if the administration wasn't willing to support the program, it's probably the best thing. Good luck to all the players in the program finding new schools if they choose to do so.
