Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Nice sweep, but the atmosphere was decidedly dead with the students gone.

Sioux and Mavericks this week. Should be a good weekend of ole time hockey.

Not too much to say around Maverick nation, eh? At least not on USCHO ;)

Zero points last weekend against UND really hurts. This weekend, a tough UMD team comes to Mankato. I watched the games last weekend on FCS, but there really isn't anything that sticks out. I didn't think the team played well at all on Friday--kind of reminded me of the play during the 6-0 pounding at the hands of UW in October. The only thing that sticks out about Saturday is Jutting's repeated comment that they "won the last 55 minutes of the game" (paraphrased). That kind of pizzes me off, and it might just be me that feels this way, because the team needs to win the whole game for it to count! The coach shouldn't accept anything less than that. Oh well, right

IMHO, without pretty much running the table, another year on the road for the first round of the WCHA tourney has been sealed :(

Some good news, depending on how you look at it, this week is Tyler Pitlick's 21st ranking from NHL Central Scouting. Gotta feel good for that kid :)

I haven't found an update on Cook's injury? Though, I really haven't sought out any information outside of Shane and this place.

Go Mavs!

You're not wrong, but I'm pretty confident the message given by the coaching staff behind closed doors is a lot different than what is given to the media/public; as it should be. They know better than anyone that this team needs to play better, and has the ability to play better, but publicly calling out/embarrassing the team isn't the way to get that done.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

I hope they do better this weekend. What was the deal with Phil Cook? I didn't watch the game but were they soft goals or legit? I was hoping he would ride his momentum from the RIT series but it sounds like Ralph Engelstad Arena got the best of him. I'm sitting in line right now awaiting to get my student tickets for the UMD games. I came a bit too earlier. (2nd in line, 10 total people here atm)

GO MAVS!

Also on a side note, Does anyone know any form of college hockey feed/news that have/use a twitter account? I know there is CHA one, but I was wondering more WCHA oriented. Thanks :)

Fair enough. Personally, I would prefer a "we need to just play better" or even "no comment." The coach's comments to the media/public, in this case, seem to be justifying a loss. Just my take. Maybe, it is that the pessimist in me usually wins these battles of interpretation? If I had a more optimistic outlook, I might be able to see the more positive connotation :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Got this David Backes nugget off of St. Louis Blues Game Time (great blog on SBN, if you haven't been there, check it out).
David Backes is an American professional hockey player currently playing for the St. Louis Blues. On New Years, David had the privilege to be named to the USA Olympic Hockey Team.

Since then, he has shown what it means to be a true American hero.

The night after he was named to the Olympic Roster, Backes and the Blues took on the Chicago Blackhawks. During that game, David fought Canadian Olympian Jonathan Toews.

...

A mere five nights later, David and the Blues travelled to Anaheim to take on the Ducks. When he looked up and down the roster, he had a myriad of Olympians to beat down. Backes chose sniper Corey Perry, another Canadian, and beat him down.
The link is complete with video :D

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

I'm more impressed with the fact that Toews puked twice after getting beaten up by Backes.

LOL, that is pretty sweet. Backes is a bad ***, who knew!?! ;) :)

Apologies to you and the WCH blog, too, as I just noticed earlier today you linked the same thing a day before Game Time :o

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Mavs fall Friday 2-1 to UMD at home. UMD is a pretty solid team; now tied with DU for 1st in the WCHA (who would have thought that with all the players they lost from last year ). Unfortunately, MSU's predicted spot of 8 is looking more like reality :( Actually, it is probably going to be a battle with UAA if that team continues to play well to stay out of 9th place.

Even if the Mavs can catch fire here--which I hope they do--and put 4-5 Ws in a row, it is still likely 7th place at best.

Business as usual.
