Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!
Things are really bottoming out, and this is what we can expect for the foreseeable future.
QFT

We may still be able to beat Bemidji in the new WCHA, but the joy might stop there (as we watch them handle themselves quite well with the rest of the leauge). Given the entire picture of the WCHA, IMHO, we end up right around 10th place most years. Something/someone could always come out of nowhere to surprise on occasion, but based on the current situation, I don't think we can hope for much more than that year-to-year.
If I was Mr. Pitlick, would I really want to stay around for another year of College Hockey after
potentially going #20 in the NHL entry draft? I suppose it depends. Obviously, I'm not him so I can't ever say. And there are a lot of other factors, not the leasat of which is what his family and the direction the drafting organization would like him to take.
Assuming I was in his possition and had the choice, I'd really have to look hard at the talent coming into the program to make this team better. That includes not only next year's freshman class, but also how improved this year's fellow freshmen and sophomores might be with one more year of experience. Most importantly, I need to know what next year's student leadership will provide. Based on the past, I cannot believe there is ANYTHING [hockeywise] my coach will be able to provide; unless, my roll in the NHL will be "team goon."
Ugh.
