Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Assuming the weather cooperates, I plan to make the trek over to Sioux Falls, SD. tomorrow to watch the Fargo Force take on the Sioux Falls Stampede. It should be a pretty good match-up and it will be fun to watch future Mavericks' Matt Leitner, Corey Leivermann and Chase Grant.

I've watched Leivermann play a couple times but this will be my first time watching the other two.

Hope you made it out. Sounded like a good game for those kids.

I did make it... Great game. The Force won in a shootout and the game-winner came from none other than Mankato's Corey Leivermann. He and Chase Grant seem to work exceptionally well together. Leitner didn't score any points but he made some really great passes and won some important face-offs. All three of these guys look pretty good. The true star of the game was probably Fargo's goaltender; Ryan Massa (19 saves in the first period and he held off all five of the Sioux Falls skaters in the shootout).

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

I can't believe how far Leivermann has come since he played in high school. I thought he'd be a replacement for Gaulrapp, and now it looks like he could more than that.

I think it's interesting that MSU has four recruits in the top 25 in USHL scoring. The other Mavs to finish in the top 25 in USHL scoring in recent years: Mick Berge, Joel Hanson, Ryan Carter, Travis Morin, and David Backes. Except for Jon Kalinski, that's pretty much the list of best forwards MSU has had since Joseph and Stevenson.

Zach Palmquist is also in the top 10 for scoring among defensemen. Brian Kilburg is the only Maverick to do that. Kurt Davis finished 11th in his last year of juniors, and Steve Wagner finished 16th in his last year of juniors.

Obviously a lot more goes into it than just that, but it seems like a good start.

Tyler Bruggeman has put up some crazy numbers since getting traded to St. Louis(who is always one of the best in their league). I wouldn't be surprised if he was the next local kid to play for the Mavs.

I got my paper bag mask ready for next weekend. This is getting ridiculous

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

I'm getting really tired of the Jutting sugar coating after every game; from the Freep:

Jutting tried to put a positive spin on the game. He said he was pleased with his team’s even-strength play and the fact that MSU finished with a 35-31 shot advantage.

Really, Coach? Really? You just had an eight spot put up on your team. Unless this is Mites or PeeWees, I don't think there is anything good to say about that. Maybe that's just me

MavFan, you are right, this is getting ridiculous. I know one thing the program can do to restore my faith. However, the current economy and circumstances mean that likely will not happen. I can only hope there will be strong player leadership next year--from ANY class--to instill the discipline needed and give us something to again cheer about.

My two requests for this team for the rest of the year: 1) one of our boys doesn't seriously injure an opposing player and 2) one of our boys doesn't do something similarly heinous to tarnish the program further.

Well I think my "Fire Jutting!" motto is starting to turn to something a little more profane. The Mavs are a ***** joke this season.

David Backes scores a goal against the Swiss today.

Big sweep this weekend..hope all are well, it's been awhile since I've posted..

I love the Mavericks dearly, but I just am embarassed at the lack of discipline, aka troy jutting style hockey that we play. We should be much better than ninth in the league.:( We work our asses off, and we're very gritty, but we kill ourselves with stupid penalties time after time. It's amazing to think about what a guy like Dean Blais could've done with this kind of talent and veteran leadership...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

So I am getting a group together to see the Friday game down in Mankato, and I keep calling the Verizon Center number, and they say their office hours are until 5 p.m. but nobody is answering. They also said I could call TicketMaster, but I was hoping to avoid them and their 8 dollars in fees. Anybody know if the Box Office is a viable option, or if I'm gonna have to go through TicketBastard?

I'd try calling again...how many tickets do you need? I could possibly work something out for you and get you tickets at will call or something?

A few. I think we're looking at either 8 or 9.

Congratulations to Nina Tikkanen and Finland on their Bronze Metal

I believe that that is the first Olympic medal for a maverick.

# 2 coming this weekend. I think so.

Congratulations, indeed!

I hope #2 is coming this weekend, but it isn't going to be easy...

Go Mavericks. Sweep the Huskies this weekend. :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Minnesota State Maverick Hockey Thread: Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!

Did you come up with a final number?

Shari Vogt didn't recieve a medal?

Shari Vogt was the last goalie cut prior to the Olympics in 2006. In my opinion... they would have gotten more than a bronze medal if they had kept her on the roster!
