Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

While watching the US-swiss game today I heard a interesting stat. Of the 23 players on Team USA, 17 played collegiate hockey  .

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

ahhhh when did they make the move? I knew they played in a barn that seats a lot. I think your estimation in terms of seating is about right for them. They have a huge following and are in a bigger city than oxford (not hard). However I do think at some point Miami will add seats down the road. Last weekend the qwest center looked almost full, granted it was michigan but still you get 13-14 k in Nebraska is pretty good. Makes Ohio st. look awful, but that hasn't been hard lately lol.

I think they've been there for at least 5 seasons. Wiki says it opened in '03.

Since interesting stats were brought up I found this one interesting reading the Miami Student today...over the last 7 games Miami has outscored opponents 13-0 in the first period. This was a problem at the beginning of the season, hopefully we can keep this going.

Take anything the Miami student prints with a grain of salt lol :D

LOL, I was trying to count them when I saw guys on the ice! Good to know.

Now that is counting Duncan Keith who played both, but still a great number for the college game IMO. On the flip side only 4 canadians of the 23 went the college route, which includes Miamian Dan Boyle who looks really really good tonight.

challenge Miami fans- lets get to 1,000 posts by game time friday! Would be the earliest we will have to start a season thread II ever. Got a long way to go to catch other programs but maybe one day lol.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Yea looks like the 13-0 first period run is right. Even more so impressive may be that during those 7 games, we've outscored teams 36-10.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but during the Canada-Norway game the announcer mentioned us! WOOT WOOT! It was while Danny Boyle was out on the ice they said something like "from Miami University #1 college hockey team right now"

***Snaps for Olympic announcers***

Boyle also added 2 assists and a +4...not too shabby.

Also, flying under the radar stat... Wingles looks to join the century club by this seasons end. Currently he has a 40-51--91 line in 115 games. Next up on the list are Cannone 26-61--87 in 115 games, and Miele with 33-47--80 in 90 games.

Palmer, Miele, Wingles, Schilling, Hirschfeld, Brandon, Weber, Vogelhuber, and Tomassoni have all already set career high points marks this season. Not as impressive for the younger guys, but the top three definitely.

Speaking of Dan Boyle, it was great to see him back in Oxford a couple of weeks ago. Got a much deserved ovation and he looked like he was happy to be back for a night.

Ironic you posted this I was just looking at some career stats and saw Wingels was close and that Cannone and Miele are well on their way.

I've been very impressed with Brandon Smith this year when he has gotten an opportunity to play. Not a bad way to go out your senior year.

Well, if it was Doc Emrick, he'd better acknowledge us. He got his M.A. in Radio/Television from Miami in 1969!

I'm not sure, but I can't think of a class of 4 guys who have all broken the century mark. I remember Kompon/Hogeboom/Edwardson doing it in the early 2000s. Maybe redeagle would know.

Miele's numbers are most impressive to me, as he only played half of his freshman year. Almost averaging a point per game in his career is tremendous. Scary thing is this season isn't over and they have a year to go (hopefully).

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Just watched a replay of the little line brawl over the weekend, and have a couple notes. Wouldn't be surprised to see hirschfeld get another game added to his suspension. Going back after the guy and smoking him as he is getting into the penalty box is flat our ridiculous. Secondly Connor Knapp is absolutely lucky he didn't get a third man in during that scrum. Him and wideman wen't after a BG player behind the net, can't believe they missed that but he is lucky he didn't get a DQ for that like he should of by rule. With that said the shot that started it all was a cheap shot, I know emotions are high and things like that should be handled. You just got to find a better way to not hurt your team in the long run and if you are getting kicked out you are not helping your team. I know redeagle will laugh at this because I was the first to mix it up and drop my gloves but looking back I hurt my team more than I helped them. I was just dissapointed to see Hirsch take it too far and go back after him, I hope their isn't an additional game added but could see it if there is.
