They are just following in the winning tradition laid down by their football teams the last two years.

Whoa! I don't enjoy that theory whatsoever! If we applied that transitory effect to Miami hockey from Miami football... We would be a 3 win hockey team.

Haha, well our lovely RedHawk football team has been about playing to expectations while ND and UM have redefined underachieving relative to their talent levels. So we will say that its not applicable to us

Football threadjack for a moment, but playing in the MAC, my expectations are winning that joke of a league every year, so in that sense, they have missed my mark badly.

I would agree with Notre Dame underachieving, but for me Michigan isn't. They are a medicore club, they don't have the talent base they have in the past years. Cogliano is solid and so is wahlberg, but hogan in net isn't consistant enough and their defense lacks a superstar. They don't have the depth they have had in years past and it has caught up to them. They get highly touted recruits but some haven't panned out. Like I have said most of the year, I don't see them getting in the top 4 but with Ferris's collapse they could sneak in. Getting swept last weekend really hurt them, however if UNO gets swept by Miami this weekend it could get them back in it.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

I bet Dave Starman is predicting a UNO sweep this weekend. What a goon. Last year with the Mavs, lets send them packing and not getting that week off in March.

Our O is better, our D is better, our goalies are better, our guys are bigger and younger. Oh, and here's a funny stat...

In the last 11 games against UNO, Miami is 10-0-1.

UNO's current seniors had never beaten Michigan until this past weekend. Well we sent their last year seniors out with never beating us, lets do it to another class.

Nice stat there. I got an uneasy feeling about this series, UNO is playing really really well and hitting on all cylinders. But then again Miami is playing really well also. Should be a very good weekend of hockey with a lot of the line for the Mavs.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

This weekend oughta be interesting and a real measuring stick for UNO. UNO has much more to play for this weekend than does Miami, but Miami, simply put, is the best team in the country, and UNO might be hung over from sweeping Michigan. Plus UNO hasn't been good on the road, no matter how good at home.

Regret not making it to your new rink before leaving the league; will be looking in on the satellite Friday.

Too bad you won't make it to Steve Cady Arena it is definitely quite the experience. There is no place I would rather be on hockey weekends.

Game looks to be a pretty good matchup. UNO coming off the huge sweep against Michigan and Miami playing first home series after clinching the CCHA Championship. I don't think either team will have a let down and I'm looking forward to two great games this weekend.

My friends who have been there have raved about it. Also, I understand the "proof of concept" renderings of UNO's proposed on-campus arena have borrowed heavily from Steve Cady Arena.

That's really cool. Hopefully UNO approves an on-campus ice rink in the near future and in my somewhat biased opinion, The Goggin/Steve Cady Arena would be a great place to model it after.

That surprises me, don't you guys normally sell out/come close to selling out the civic center? That seats over 10k if im not mistaken. I watched both games on CBSC this weekend and it looked to be a great atmosphere. Do you know what capacity they are looking at? I would think it would be bigger than Goggin, but again not sure on space you guys have on your campus.

UNO has more to play for in terms of conference standings, but this is a big series for Miami at this point in the year because they are playing a team under consideration who is on the verge of making a push at the tourny and who is playing very very well. I believe UNO is some 6-1-1 in their last 10, which is a great run. I have a feeling it will be a high flying weekend, lots of pace and action. Two offenses that are scoring a lot of goals. Goaltending will be the difference IMO this weekend and haven't gotten a good enough look at UNO's goalies to get a read on them.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

IIRC, the Civic Center sat around 8,000. They are now playing in Qwest Center which seats close to 16,000. I would think an on-campus facility in the 7,000-9,000 range would be perfect for the Mavs.

Despite this (www.selloutohiostate.com), UNO has never sold out Qwest Center - to my knowledge.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

UNO has more to play for in conference standings, Miami has more to play for in terms of #1 overall seed (UNO will factor into the CoP with Denver), and emotionally more to play for.

ahhhh when did they make the move? I knew they played in a barn that seats a lot. I think your estimation in terms of seating is about right for them. They have a huge following and are in a bigger city than oxford (not hard). However I do think at some point Miami will add seats down the road. Last weekend the qwest center looked almost full, granted it was michigan but still you get 13-14 k in Nebraska is pretty good. Makes Ohio st. look awful, but that hasn't been hard lately lol.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Here's a little roundup...

Miami 22-4-6 (10-2-2 Home) vs UNO 16-12-6 (3-10-3 Away).

Miami is unbeaten in their last 22 conference games, and currently 9-0-1 in their last 10. UNO coming off a first ever sweep of Michigan, is riding a 6-3-1 streak into Oxford. Miami just clinched the conference title, UNO is in 6th in the CCHA in winning % (they have games in hand).

Miami has scored 111 goals and given up 54 for a 3.47 for/1.69 against average.
In CCHA games the numbers are even more outstanding, 86 goals for and 31 against for a 3.58 for/1.29 against average. (Only two times this season has a conference opponent scored 3 or more goals against us in a game.)
UNO has scored 99 goals and given up an almost equal 95 for a 2.91/2.79 average. In CCHA the numbers are still identical scoring 79 and giving up 75 for 3.04 and 2.88 averages. (18 times this season UNO has given up 3+ goals in a conference game.)

Miami is one of the few teams that not only has 1 scorer over 30 points, but 4 players over 30. Also 2 in the 20s.
Miele 12-23-35
Palmer 14-21-35
Wingels 14-19-33
Camper 12-20-32
Cannone 9-13-22
C Mac 5-16-21

UNO's scoring is even more spread out than ours, if that were possible... 8 players between 22 and 20 points.
Kemp 5-17-22
Purslow 11-11-22
Del Grosso 5-17-22
Martin 9-13-22
Ambroz 9-12-21

Special Teams
Both teams powerplays are almost identical, Miami at 19.3% and UNO at 19.0%. Miami is coming in with the #4 PK in the country at 87.7%, UNO with a PK of 83.4%.

Goalies
Reichard 15-2-3 1.42 GAA .938 Sv% 5 shutouts
Knapp 7-2-3 2.04 GAA .916 Sv% 3 shutouts
