Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

That's the thing, that is the exact scenario that we play in now. Everyone twice, and 3 teams four times. But with 11 teams, and the protected rivalries you mentioned, someone is left out, and since UNO is leaving UAF is missing their partner. Either we wind up playing everyone 3 times, or everyone 2 times, but at 11 we can't find a way to get groups of teams together to do 4 games with certain teams.

What I am thinking is similar but not the same. You don't have set teams you play, OSU and Miami wouldn't play the same teams twice. The teams would rotate each year. For example Miami would play OSU twice and say Ferris and Western twice, while OSU would play Notre Dame and BG twice along with Miami. Kind of how football does it in the big ten where you play your rivals every year and rotate the other teams each year and you don't play two teams a year. I think it can work, you just don't have clusters just rotate 3 teams through each year.

Great stuff! Cool insight you may never see.

Whats with the Brotherhood stuff??

"The Brotherhood" is the Miami Hockey Credo, so to speak. It is the code by which the team works and lives - on the ice and off. It is a way for the men to have a tangible creed which helps them to have a common focus and know that each of them has an entire group of guys (including the staff) that is there for them for any reason. It also lets them know that they are being held to a higher standard than a typical college student - not by the school or law or rule, but by themselves and their brothers. Such a concept is not a new one by any means, but to have it formalized in such a manner must be quite a comfort knowing that you have some 35 men for support. To read the credo (its at the bottom):

I hope it hasn't changed in the past couple of years, but when i was there, I can't think of a single time a hockey player was in trouble. and trust me, it would be huge news around campus if something happened (consider problems that we've heard about from MSU and UM). I give kudos to Coach Blasi and Co. for recruiting such great kids that will buy into this system.

Weber took the wrong purse from the bar over the summer, but that wasn't that big of a deal just a mistake. Wasn't as bad as say...

a DUI and lawnmower throwing
underage drinking and letting your arrested teammates out of the cop car
alleged team rape charges

Let's not get too comfortable with the lack of off-ice incidents. Just takes one too many beers at BW-3's after the game to set someone off. That said, saw Wingels, Justin Vaive and Rick Vaive at BW's following Saturday's win over Lake Superior.

Justin is big. Just sayin'.

Seems like a great way to build a program, great way to unite a team. Thanks

In case you folks missed this it's a nice touch from the guy who helped introduce your courageous young man to the rest of the hockey world a few months ago. Every word of it true. For me there was one small measure of good that I can attach to this horrible event. It just gave me another reason to make an extra effort to track down my daughter (who is in the United States Air Force and when deployed can be hard to connect with sometimes -- even in the 21st century military) and tell her I loved her. It had been a few weeks since we last spoke and for some reason I didn't want to wait any longer. I don't think I'd like never being able to say that again.

As always, thanks IHF. I saw that article yesterday and it was so moving. I had that reaction over the weekend, like "what might have this kid done, accomplished?" and then to have Buccigross express it so beautifully .... I'll tell you one thing, a lot of people will be better because of Brendan Burke, especially after reading that article (including me), and that is a wonderful legacy.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

The playoffstatus.com guys have updated their probability numbers for our season. Aside from the obvious stuff about our chances for wrapping up the CCHA, they're giving us 63% odds right now to claim the #1 overall seed for the NCAA tourney, and a 99% chance of being in the top 4 overall seeds (#1 seed). Denver's getting 18% for the #1, Wisconsin 14%, and St. Cloud 4%. Apparently (on the other page) we're also the only team in the country who can lose out and still 100% guaranteed make the tourney. So that's interesting I guess.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Pete Conrad's article from earlier today.

"These are the two most important games of the season,” Brandon Smith said, “and anything less than a two-game sweep is unacceptable."

Love the attitude from Brandon!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

You have to love the attitude Miami has shown all year. While the two teams who spent almost all of last year firmly entrenched atop both the polls and their conferences have both stunk up their rinks all year and won't likely sniff the NCAA tournament, Miami has taken the stunning end of last year and kicked it into the next county and gone about their business simply playing their game. With barely a blip they have exhibited the two things all year I admire most in a hockey team, effort and focus.

Headin' up for both games with a few others from Columbus and meeting the rest of our group there. We'll be at Fricker's for the Miami gathering before the game tomorrow, too. Can't wait. Go Hawks!
