Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Have to wonder if they're going up to Massachusetts or not on Tuesday. Especially with a road series already this weekend, that would be a short week of practice. Then again, BG has a strange week also with a game in Ann Arbor on Tuesday night.

From what I know, they are going to try and get the team there tuesday for the funeral. Not sure if it will happen but from what I gathered at the rink last night they are going to try. I think it will be highly beneficial for the guys to go there and pay their respects. It wouldn't be too tough with them at BG and it being a relative short bus ride, however with another snow storm on the way for tuesday they may not be able to get out.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

rhm did see this one coming. There definitely was something else going on out there last night. Lake is a really good team, IMO, so there is no way short of something mystical to explain last night. Shots were just finding holes, bounces were going Miami's way, and Miami made the plays. Lake made two mistakes, IMO, pulling BMW so fast, and then letting Miami emotion out. As Rico said, Miami was sort of defending their honor. It was not the game to try to out-emotion MU.

Was it nine goal-scorers? 15 players with points? two by Knapp? What the....

Yesterday and last night was so emotional, so sad at the rink. I think the difficult time for the players and coaches is still ahead, including the funeral on Tuesday. Obviously this kid was something very special to all who knew him.

As some like to say, death is part of life, but it shouldn't be, not at 21 and 18.

Nothing there to disagree about, you hit the nail on everything. It was almost a surreal feeling in the arena. You almost knew this game had potential to get really out of control. I would disagree about LSSU gooning it up like jd had mentioned. If McKenzie doesn't jump the pile in the first that line brawl doesnt happen. Everyone on Miami had a short fuse and went above and beyond to stick up for one another, like redeagle said they were defending each others honor.

I was wrong, 9 different goal scorers:eek:. It is great to see and this possibly could catapolt miami into another level of play, that if I was another team across the country I would be a little worried of. Miele's goal was nice, but his best play of the night was one he didn't score on walking 3 guys at the blueline. Hartman with a snip from the wing, Loverde getting his first of the year and I believe spinnell with his first career goal. Wingles got another and was snake bitten on a few others.

I think you saw Lake's desperation they knew they had to play with last night when they pulled BMW that quick. I too think it was the wrong move but I tip my hat they didn't give up and won the third period. They are a darn good hockey club who just walked into a death trap with the circumstances of the weekend.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Hartman's 4x4 goal was pure effort. I watched the replay yesterday from ONN's coverage. When Camper had the puck around the Miami blue line, Hartman was still around the Miami net. He put his head down and outraced Wingels up the ice, and obviously, the entire Lake squad to create the 2x1. I actually thought he should have shot the puck sooner, because Inglis took forever to move from left to right, but it still worked when he went 5-hole. He skated 200 feet for that goal. All effort.

I have to say that I didn't think much of Hartman's skating at the start of the season. But, he has improved dramatically in terms of speed and effort. Nice looking young player.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

That is sweet! Since there was no holiday tournament at Ohio State this year it is a good thing getting into one for next year.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Speaking of next years schedule, have to wonder how the 11 team CCHA conference schedule will work itself out. I really hope we take the opportunity to shorten the CCHA sched and increase non conference games than expand it to 30 games again, but there's really no other reasonable way for it to work out unless we go from 28 to 20 games. If that happens expect to see a lot of ECAC non conference games.

'95 I had a similar reaction when I saw Hartman in Indy, but I think it is because he is so big, he looks a little awkward when you first see him. I think the play you describe embodies what he is about. From what we see on the ice, and everything I hear about him off the ice, Miami is very lucky to have him.

Speaking of skating, Weber sure seems very smooth for a big man.

I made a comment to someone I was sitting with that for lake st.'s sake it is a good thing the Weber/Hartman D pairing wasn't on the ice in the first for that little scuffle!

So next year we will be playing St. Cloud 3 times? If I do recall we go there next year for a non-conference series and UNH comes to oxford. Thats a great field and nice to see more tough OOC games even in a tournament format, those 3 teams are formidable.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

B***** University almost pulled off a repeat of last April in the Beanpot last night. Good thing for B***** College that the score was 4-1 instead of 3-1 when the U started playing their game.

Anyone see Kreider's goal? Fun to watch if you like one-on-one undressings. Kreider has some wheels.

Or unbalanced schedules. Where rivalry partners pair off against two other rivalry partners and switch. For example - Miami/OSU v. Michigan/MSU on Friday or Saturday night and then perhaps a two game series home and away. Heck, might not play everyone in a season. Will be interesting.

Weber is a great skater. He has an "NHL stride." Now, if he can continue to elevate his game, he's going to make the CBJ happy with their second round choice.

Didn't have video, but heard all about it. Hopefully there will be some video clips turning up on YouTube or something.

I think you will see everyone play everyone atleast twice. However I could see you have a rotation of 3 other teams you play 4 times a year. That would drop the conference game total only to 26 games. For instance play your "rival" 4 times and two other teams 4 a year but those two rotate similar to the cluster system you have now. However Ohio st. and Miami wouldn't necessarily play the same two teams twice. This all sounds good in my head, not sure if it is viable or not. Hope it atleast makes sense.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

We wouldn't be able to do that same 4 games against 3 different teams schedule next season because someone is left out, hell, can't even do a travel partner or clustermate, whatever they want to call it.

Miami/OSU
Michigan/Michigan State
Notre Dame/Bowling Green
Northern Michigan/Lake State
Western Michigan/Ferris State
Alaska Fairbanks.....

If we try the similar schedule we have now we could wind up with...
Miami/OSU/Michigan/Michigan State
Notre Dame/Bowling Green/Northern Michigan/Lake State
Western Michigan/Ferris State/Alaska Fairbanks.....

I don't see any other way around it, we're either going back up to 30 games again, or 20. I honestly think we may see the latter with how the Big Ten teams want more action between themselves now.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

And it looks like the boys beat out the storm and made the trip to Boston for today.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/article/762697--hundreds-remember-much-loved-brendan-burke

A full 45 minutes before the mass began, the church’s more than 600 seats were already filled to capacity. Up front, the Maple Leafs players and club brass sat quietly. Across the aisle were members of the Miami RedHawks, wearing bright red team jerseys emblazoned with a shamrock and the letters BB.

I guess what I am thinking is you play everyone twice and three teams 4 times. That would get you to 26 and you could still keep some of the rivalries like NMU-LSSU, Miami-OSU, MSU-UM and just pair them with 2 other teams a year on a rotating basis. I think that could work with some creativity, but will have to get rid of the cluster basis.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami Season Thread

Nice find. I heard something was afoot, but nice to see confirmed. I might have to find a way to attend this!

Im sure you wouldn't have a hard time getting the wife to go along with a trip to floriday in january, lol :D .

That's the thing, that is the exact scenario that we play in now. Everyone twice, and 3 teams four times. But with 11 teams, and the protected rivalries you mentioned, someone is left out, and since UNO is leaving UAF is missing their partner. Either we wind up playing everyone 3 times, or everyone 2 times, but at 11 we can't find a way to get groups of teams together to do 4 games with certain teams.
