Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

More to it with all the hype all over majority of tv networks and radio all day on sunday, and not just sports networks, I think there were a lot of people tuning in that don't normally watch hockey. And you have to believe that some will tune in again because that was one of the most intense fantastic hockey games I have ever seen. And for the casual viewer that had to be a joy to watch!

What can you say about the effort the US team put forth last night, but it was phenominal!

My roommate (not a huge hockey fan) got home after the game chanting "USA!!! USA!!!" after midnight. it was quite amusing! Those kinds of effort are exactly the kinds that casual fans love to see and will only help grow the interest in hockey here in the States.

My only hope is that the casual fans don't start expecting to win gold. It is possible, don't get me wrong. However, we still have to beat Switzerland again (most likely) and the Czech/Finland winner. It's much easier without having to play one of the Triad before the Finals, but it will be very difficult to get there. I just don't want the fans to be too distressed if it doesn't happen. A silver or bronze would still be a huge victory in my book.

I don't think "no gold" would lose the potential fans gained from last night. The perfromance was incredible, and I thinkt he passion and intensity not to mention the speed and incredible action is what will intrigue people the most and get them to maybe tune into some NHL games and possibly gain new fans. To me the game last night wasn't about winning gold for the casual viewer, I think some people watched because they heard everyone talking about it. When 1980 happened the game took a big jump forward, from what I was told lol, and I just hope after the strike happened that last nights game and performance will bring the game back a little.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

I was watching the game at a buddy's apartment last night, with 3 minutes to go in the game his roommate's girlfriend, who had been intensely watching the whole time, asked how many innings were left. While the NHL will not gain such people as fans, you would hope that maybe some who have not made an effort to seek out games since the strike will tune back in.

Getting playoff games off the Hunting and Fishing network might have a positive effect on popularity as well lol.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

A lot of my buddies have been complaining about the game last night being on MSNBC instead of regular NBC. They're not the biggest fans, but at least they watched the game. But they don't know how much of a backseat puck has taken to things like "Ice Dancing", "Scrabble Championships", "1981 World Series of Poker", and "Dominos Championships".

Some of us are a couple years young, but don't forget that the 1980 US/Russia game wasn't live on the TV machine at all, it was tape delayed.

And what's the deal with us talking about hockey again. I thought we made a nice detour with Kelly Kapowski.

And lastly, I really hate the google machine. Now the ad banner up top is Saved By the Bell Tshirts. Stop spying on me Mr Google! Regardless of how awesome a Bayside Tigers shirt would be.

Oh, and this is the week I think we go only Reich personally, this is a playoff atmosphere against OSU and these wins are important.

Especially with a week off forthcoming. Gotta get him some more minutes.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

So how many people will be making the trip over to Columbus this weekend, over/under on the crowd being over 50% Miami fans again?

Last game we were sitting behind a group of about 50 little kids who were quite enamored with our goal chant although one of the dads was less then pleased with our clean, albeight constant, heckling.

I'll be there. If you buy tickets through the MU alumni association, OSU has moved our block to one of the ends. Likely to try to move us away from the four season ticket holders. That said, they've foolishly moved us behind the OSU net for periods 1 and 3. Wow. Heeter/Carlson are in trouble.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Of course I'll be there! Looking forward to driving some OSU fans out of the arena with incessant goal chants and loud renditions of the Fight Song!

In case you don't already have your tickets, $7 gets you in the Miami block and pregame reception at BW3's w/ appetizers and wings: Register Here!

If you'll be in Columbus on Friday: Come watch the game with us!

Finally, we'll be headed to The Little Bar after the game to celebrate the end of a great regular season.

Facebook Event
with all the details for the day.

I do have to say I love the Schott, we walked up 20 minutes before the game last time and got 3 6th row tickets on the blue line at the OSU end.

1-2. Denver, Miami
These two are so tight in every criteria, that it could flip-flop six more times before we know which team is which. Ultimately, it probably doesn't even matter. Both of these teams also have a significant edge over all other teams, including everyone from Wisconsin at No. 3 and down. So no matter how you slice it, it's pretty apparent that Denver will play in St. Paul, and Miami will play in Fort Wayne.

People may say there's no such thing as a good loss. And that's true, to a point. But it's also true that teams that win national championships tend to have had some bumps in the road ... they come back stronger and tougher. Keeps them humble and fighting.

Just wanted to give you Redhawk fans a chance to win tickets to the CCHA Championship games in Detroit, would be hard to see Miami not playing there.

Just need to answer some trivia....

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

They just showed a commercial for that show during the Swiss belarus game. Never seen it but looks like it also has the goalie from the movie miracle in it. Or as the woman pointed out, Tag from the show Friends
