Re: Off Season Topic: Hockey Terminology

Someone should write a hockey story just using hockey terms. It would be a beaut.

I read this on Facebook "I was coming in on a breakaway and dangled the goalie and went bar down, and celled like a beaut, and almost got a dime for over cellying too much so I started to trow some beaks at the ref and he was rattled."

Re: Off Season Topic: Hockey Terminology

Then someone could make a movie about the book - haha

97% of the population would have no idea what was being said, it would have to have subtitles or a reference book attached to the dvd. I remember watching Dune for the first time and it came with a 40 page reference guide to the terms. I couldn't keep pausing to read what they mean't so I just watched the show.

Funny thing is that much more of the population would understand what they were saying in Dune than in a hockey movie just using hockey slang!

Re: Off Season Topic: Hockey Terminology

bad boots (slow skater or not very agile)
bad mitts (not a great stickhandler)

Re: Off Season Topic: Hockey Terminology

wheel and wheels have to be separated

wheel means to skate the puck up ice (usually without stopping in your own end, attack right away)

wheels (refers to a players strong ability to skate quickly)

I nominate Arlan and Candace in next season's first Wednesday Women! ;)

Re: Off Season Topic: Hockey Terminology

I think this will get me caught up on all the suggestions posted so far.

You may regret having started this thread...looks like you created a career for yourself until October.

But, here's a few more...

mask
soft hands
tossed
ejected
rink wide pass
leaking oil...(if I remember correctly I heard this during an all out Can vs US women's hockey game a number of years ago with both sides completely exhausted...in the third period of the canoe tipper (there's another one) a Canadian player picked up the puck and had a long breakaway but about halfway to the net just had a power melt down and the Canadian play by play guy whose commentating had jumped to a fever pitch as the breakaway started squeezed in at the top of his lungs "she's leaking oil" and uncontrollable laughter ensued among those of us watching the game together...I guess he was an auto enthusiast).
