Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

Re: Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

And American Idol, Big Brother, and Monday Night Raw all have higher ratings than Breaking Bad, Sherlock, or Mad Men.

No one's ever gone broke appealing to the least common denominator in America. So what's your point?

Speaking of lowest common denominator, we can count His Highandmightyness and his big a*s wife turning loose their legions of well-informed inner city drones, felons and illegal aliens in November. Can't we?

It's inevitable we're going to need that oil at some point down the line, even if it's just to stabilize prices and slow the rate of inflation due to the increasing scarcity of crude suitable for gasoline refinement in the current production regions. That doesn't even account for the geopolitical reasons to drill more at home. Might as well make the preparations now, while scientists continue to indecisively play in the alternative energy sandbox.

And no rational person is suggesting we stop looking for other energy sources. We can and should do both. And we should also stop kidding ourselves about the economic viability of so-called alternatives, that make for great cocktail party or convention rhetoric, but not much else. Especially since those who make the most noise about "alternatives" resolutely oppose nuclear.

"He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character. And wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them, she's to blame for their lot in life, and you go on television and you call her a whore." --"The American President"

It's a little Sorkin-y, but I like it. :D

"He's got an ugly girlfriend. That shows lack of confidence."

Exactly. I have to think somebody's come up with that sketch already. A bunch of Bob Shrums and Grover Norquists sitting around a table, "Well what you have to do is you have to frame it as 'the people vs the powerful' -- that's how we did it with Chavez and Bobby in '68," or whatever. Stale!

We need some genius scientists to figure out how to go from our current skill with geothermic energy to tapping the Yellowstone Caldera. It's literally going to destroy the country one day, may as well get some use out of it now.

Realistically, someone's going to have to bite the bullet and realize that nuclear (fission, and god willing one day, fusion) is the only answer for a backbone to the power supply. Wind, sun, water can help, and lord knows we don't want nuke plants on fault lines like Japan or on the Gulf coast when the next category 4 or 5 storm comes through.

I saw that movie, too. :D

Problem is, lots of people believe in nuclear energy until the time comes to build the plant. No one wants the plant in their backyard.

Well, there's one upwind from me on Lake Michigan. The rest of you need to stop being pansies. :p

Subscribed because I'm still holding out hopes that Obama will dump Biden and pick me as his next VP.

They can build one in my backyard. Won't bug me a bit. The awesome job I could get working there would be worth it.

And your real estate taxes would go to $0. You'd think you were in Alaska.

Did you see where that monomaniacal food Nazi gave Gabby Douglas some gas for eating an Egg McMuffin? Gabby Douglas, world's best gymnast on the world's best gymnastics team? She needs dietary advice from Moochelle like a frog needs hip pockets.

Okay then.

I'm pretty sure I have never once thought of Michelle Obama as having a big ***.

Pretty sure? You haven't been paying attention under any circumstances.
