Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

Since Priceless nuked all his threads as a way of saying "farewell for now"*, I thought I'd start up another Obama thread so you O-philes and O-phobes can duke it out here and maybe free up some breathing room in the politics thread for at least some discussion of House and Senate elections.

As an added inducement, I'll only post this one thread-starter and then leave y'all to have fun without me.

A few people have pointed out that, while I am critical of Obama's policies, I rarely say anything about the man himself. Partly because I learned manners from Thumper; what point is there for me to say that he reminds me of Harold Hill or Elmer Gantry except lacking their residual conscience?

It was when I saw the following quote that I thought of reviving an Obama thread, like the XXIII we have had before.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

Rarely have I seen a figure in public life who is so persistently, consistently angry.

If I had to pick a word to describe my feelings, it would be pity.

His father left. His step-father sent him away. According to his autobiography, he made a conscious decision to invent himself as a certain kind of persona. He spent a decade listening to Jeremiah Wright preach anger and kept coming back.

It's hard not to be moved by his apparent suffering.

I'd have preferred he picked a different method of addressing his psychological problems, that's all.

* I have a daydream that in several months, Priceless returns, and tells us that he started an internet business which is going very well for him. that he was really angry when he left; then he decided to show people he was a bigger man than his anger, and came back to share the good news with us.

"You ... O-phobes."

You're so cute with your "I'm an objective centrist" drag act.

Just come out as a GOP water-carrier already. We all know you are. There's no shame in it. It will make you feel better about yourself. Really. Stop denying your Inner Derp.

Embrace it.

I'm still amazed people thought that would stick -- the "he's friends with Preacher Wright, what more do you need to know!" You should go ahead at that point and wear a sandwich board that reads, "I really, really don't want to have the debate be on substance."

And now people on the other side are doing it with Paul Ryan: "He likes Ayn Rand, what more do you need to know!" It's like everybody on the political teams is that group of old scouts in "Moneyball," sitting around talking tactics that never have worked particularly well, but that's what we've always done!

"He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections. You gather a group of middle-aged, middle-class, middle-income voters who remember with longing an easier time, and you talk to them about family and American values and character. And wave an old photo of the President's girlfriend and you scream about patriotism and you tell them, she's to blame for their lot in life, and you go on television and you call her a whore." --"The American President"

"He's got an ugly girlfriend. That shows lack of confidence."

As the next few months on Obama are all about the election, this is a good way to shift attention away from Romney. We evidently need a Romney thread.

Re: Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

Nah, FF felt the need to start yet another thread to fill with the talking points he gets every morning from Rush.

It's what he's got; leave him be. :p

Morning? You must mean Glenn Beck, Rush don't start yapping 'till noon.

I need a ruling from the Games Committee. Now that Kepstain has referred to Christie as the "fat lady," is it okay for me to talk about Moochelle's enormous a*s?

Re: Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

Rush has the highest ratings in radio. #2 is Savage, #3 is Laura Ingraham, who incidentally is a competitor to Glenn Beck.

We need to put a stop to that. What we need is a lefty-only radio network that would take the fight right to 'em. That'll fix them. What? Nevermind.

Re: Obama XXIV: Forward ... pause ... rewind ... play

Lefties clearly listen to sports radio instead. NFL: The ultimate in communist economy.

Did you see where that monomaniacal food Nazi gave Gabby Douglas some gas for eating an Egg McMuffin? Gabby Douglas, world's best gymnast on the world's best gymnastics team? She needs dietary advice from Moochelle like a frog needs hip pockets.

And American Idol, Big Brother, and Monday Night Raw all have higher ratings than Breaking Bad, Sherlock, or Mad Men.

No one's ever gone broke appealing to the least common denominator in America. So what's your point?
