Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

You can make Sperm and eggs out of thin air?

Yes, wally, didn't you know that?

Point is, you don't need marriage, "traditional" or otherwise, to propagate the human race. So that argument in favor of "traditional" marriage holds no water.

In a different time and under different circumstances, the ratio may change due to natural disasters, pestilence, etc.. And I recognize that some cultures the ratio is different, for as the Shiek said in Ben Hur, "One God I can understand, but one wife? Hah! It is not civilized." Regardless of how you do it, you still need sperm + egg = baby.

So the definition of "traditional" marriage changes over time...

What's your next reason not allowing gay marriage?

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

I gotta know. What species is going to overrun us?
Doesn't have to be a species. Germany had a significant advantage in the Franco-Prussian war because their frau and frauleins were outproducing the madams and madamoiselles.

And eventually population pressure will force the human race to emigrate (you can accuse me of being tinfoil or a nut job) because you can't afford to have all your eggs in one basket.

I can tell you this, if you try to put all your sperm in one basket they are going to lock you up and throw away the key.

What is wrong with civil unions / ensuring the same legal rights as "traditional" marriage. Then wouldn't both sides be happy?

You could give marraige to the churches to do what they want, no rights or strings attached. If you want rights whether your straight or gay, go get a civil union from the gov.

That will never do because the reps want to restrict rights, and the dems just want to whine.

Yes, odd that people will "whine" about injustice when it rears its ugly head. How unusual. How un-American! It would be so much better for this country if we all just turned our heads and pretended not to notice.

Why is the government involved in marriage at all? The government should do civil unions and leave marriages to churches. Unfortunately, that will never happen so legal gay marriage is the option.

What's wrong with separate but equal? Sure they're separate, but they are equal.

no. without social issues you couldn't rile your core base nor distinguish between the 2 party. eventually you'll get civil union passed (in most states), but just like civil rights, people will fight tooth and nail and blame every social ills on it.

I just don't see the point of arguing the philosophical meaning of marriage in a political arena

It's totally political: so there is no REAL point. other than getting the votes, splitting the populace, raising funds, telling a story... using "marriage" and the "philosophical" debate to differentiate themselves and the party.

Cause it throws one of them there proverbial monkey wrenches in the whole argument for giving the word "marriage" to a particular subset of the religious.
