Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

The bit about not giving tax breaks to companies who outsource jobs is great.

Except for the part where it'll never happen. The President may have forgotten how almost all of these guys get into office.
He also asked Congress to send him legislation to sign which is great.

Except for the part where it'll never happen. The President may have forgotten the GOP's only reason for breathing now is to make things bad enough that they can overturn the 2008 election.

Didn't you say the same thing about the Democrats and the 2000 election?

****tard McConnell ain't going to send him nothing. ****tard McConnell's only job is to make sure nothing happens and Obama is a one term President. What he failed to realize is that his precious party has no one worth a **** running for the nomination.

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

Did you read the reply at the bottom by another writer at Forbes?

Paul,
I have no idea how much money Warren Buffett’s secretary earns and perhaps she does earn more than $200,000. But your post is based on two incorrect premises.

1. Buffett’s tax rate, as a percentage of adjusted gross income, is NOT higher than 12%——it is actually just 11%, as you can read in my post here. When you hear a higher rate discussed, it is based on his taxable income (after his substantial deductions for charitable giving.) So, just based on AGI, he pays an income tax rate below the rate for those with AGI of $100,000 to $200,000.

2. Buffett doesn’t contend that his entire staff pays a higher effective INCOME tax rate than he does (whatever you want to calculate it on). What he says is that they pay a higher tax on their incomes when payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare) are included.

For those who are curious about the average effective INCOME tax rates at various income levels, they are in my post here and I have pasted them below.

Here, for 2008, are the average effective individual income tax rates, as a percentage of adjusted gross income, for various income groups. Note that the last number is for the 400 highest income returns the IRS got that year.

Size of AGI Average Tax
(in $) 2008 % of AGI

1-25,000 1.76
25-50,000 5.32
50-100,000 8.41
100-200,000 12.59
200-500,000 19.50
500-1,000,000 23.92
1-10,000,000 24.47
10,000,000 + 20.89
109,736,000+ 18.11
(top 400)

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

At the State of the Union last night, microphones picked up President Obama congratulating the Secretary of Defense, saying "Good job tonight." What was that in reference to?

Seal Team 6 does it again

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

I keep waiting for the Repubs to admit their foreign policy mistakes and vow to prevent them from happening again. Additionally I'd like them to be a bit more tolerant on social issues. At that point I don't see any reason why anyone in the middle would vote Dems again. I realize I'll be waiting a LOOONNNG time, but I'm patient.

You're not the only one.

And I wouldn't mind if they finally acknowledged that trickle-down economics don't work either. But that would mean that Reagan wasn't perfect, and they'll never do that either.

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

Yeah right, if random GOP sycophants can't admit to that why would the people appealing to them do so. Hell there are still people trotting out the Laffer Curve...even Laffer doesn't subscribe to that anymore ;)

I don't think you know what the "Laffer Curve" describes.

Obama's to the right of center. So, I guess the middle must be more to the right of center than Obama?

Bozo the Clown economics?

Au contraire!!

Jesus was perfect. The Apostles were imperfect. Thus, RR was the perfect president, but his minions did not implement his vision correctly.

:D

It would be very easy for you or Handyman to look up - but first, there's nothing there worth disparaging. First of all, it doesn't necessarily prescribe either reducing or raising tax rates, as many seem to think. It's a description of macro-tax revenue theory that isn't really disputable... it's not an enemy worth fighting.

You might think we could use more rain or less rain, but you can't reasonably tell me you don't believe in rain. "The Laffer Curve" simply says that rain exists.

Handy and I both know what the Laffer Curve is. I also know how it has been manipulated to convince the electorate to vote against their own interests and to believe that if the job creator down the street pays 13.4% like Romney he'll have a job.

The Laffer Curve has been used to get people to believe in Trickle Down Economic Theory and I ain't buying.

well yeah, that's probably all true. But "Laffer Curve" theory and "Trickle Down Economics" are still different things. It muddies the debate to attack the "Laffer Curve" as somehow being untrue.

We didn't muddy it. We're just reacting to what's already happened.

So wait, you're saying the economy causes rain?

I knew I should have paid more attention freshman year.

It is your right to think that...you are wrong but it is definitely your right to believe otherwise.

And no, I am not going to discuss what the Laffer Curve is because that wouldnt prove anything since even if you were right and I dodnt know what it is, a 3 second Google Search would make me an expert :p

But hey, thanks for your concern over my education ;)

Hey all I said was people still trot out the Laffer Curve and then made a joke that even Laffer doesnt subscribe to it. Obviously the Laffer Curve is not 'Trickle Down Economics" it was just one of the many tools used to try and defend it. I doubt if anyone would even know what it was if it wasn't for the Reaganites.
