The best thing that can possibly happen for Obama is Trump stays around sucking oxygen from the RNC room.

Obama's people just ensured Trump another month in the spotlight.

Which is ironic, seeing as it comes just as we're locating thousands of planets outside the solar system, including plenty within the stars' "habitable zones." If anything, SETI research should be increasing now, not decreasing.

Not happy about seeing any scientific endeavors canned while the third rails (defense, entitlements) remain untouched.

But, fo course, we'd rather spend our time and money on birth certificates and the unending abortion debate that anything else.

We never did. Aside from the military (which, by the way wants to shrink its size in exchange for improving our youth, infrastructure and economy) this country was never interested in science. If it wasn't for Japan and East Asia being knocked down once and Europe twice, we'd still be the backwater yokels we were in 1900.

The Moon, you say? That was going along fine until we signed a deal with the Soviets not to militarize space. Suddenly, NASA has no direction and we slash its funding to nothing. Repeat basically across the board.

Can't. The money that should be going to radio telescopes, particle accelerators, and manned spaceflight is instead being used to ask people for their papers and making sure women stay pregnant.

You don't understand much about where the feds spend money, do you?

Not to mention that I don't see how things like particle accelerators or manned spaceflight relate to looking for aliens. Are you proposing we send out spaceships with people in them looking for ET? I'm in favor of good solid science research. But I don't consider looking for ET to fall into the category of necessary science research.

And as far as I know, the feds go out of their way to not ask people for papers. The feds spending money to keep women pregnant? I can see some of the folks around here having a lot of fun with that comment. I can't say I know what on earth you mean by it.

my reference to ET was clearly just shorthand for the aliens research referenced before. Whereas your post was all over the place with references that aren't clear at all. No, I can't decipher what you think you were expressing in some tangential way.

Well, this birther issue sure has been an education. So, just learned today (I honestly did not know this) that the Certificate that Obama released in 2008 is actually the legal document in Hawaii. The one everyone has been clamoring for is not the certified legal birth certificate.

It's comedy at its finest. The World is laughing at us right now. Laughing.

If I got to pick spending priorities, SETI would have three times the budget of the DOD, but I absolutely think this is a valid chopping block budgetary item. The future of space exploration is obviously not with the United States, and we aren't the culture I want to greet ET either -- one look at us and it would either be preventative nuclear annihilation or the Venusian veal fattening pens.

Every culture should produce what it's best at. The Swiss or the Japanese will inherit the stars. We will create the first ICBM made completely of bacon.

You know an ICBM made of bacon could have a devestating effect on its target. Everything would become clogged with bacon fat as it cooled and congealed. Slow down enemy machinery pretty quick. The clogged arteries of their infantry would also be devestating when we invade and they cant run but 3 steps without getting winded.

Plus, I was talking about a very specific type of criticism directed at people the Dems said were too stupid to be president. No one ever said that about Carter, the newkyooler engineer or Clinton, the Rhodes scholar and draft dodger ("thank you for saving me from the draft") or Obama, the smartest guy in any room. But "He who cannot argue honestly" refuses to see that distinction. Pretty typical stuff, you ask me.

Every state issues a similar document. And that's what you use to get a passport. The document has to have a raised seal and a signature of the relevant official in order to qualify. No document issued by any hospital anywhere in the country is sufficient to prove citizenship and qualify for a passport. You saw that ridiculous document Trump produced. It looked like a commission in the Kentuck Navy--totally worthless.

I have no idea why BHO dragged this out so long. Maybe he thought the issue was insulting, perhaps he's just stubborn. In any event this won't be the end of it for the true believers (it never is) and this was hurting him politically. There can be no question about that, otherwise he would have continued to stonewall.

He didn't. He produced the legal document in 2008. The one he released today is worthless.
