I don't know anything about them. (I actually didn't know about it -- I assume it's part of the austerity measures?)

While I do, indeed, believe that studying Renaissance Literature contributes immeasurably more to the dignity of man than studying engineering, I also think that people who do it either need to (1) come from money, (2) marry money, or (3) learn to eat Ramon noodles and not complain.

Apparently I was even in the UK during the student protests and never knew about them. Those protesters are not doing their job right.

While I do, indeed, believe that studying Renaissance Literature contributes immeasurably more to the dignity of man than studying engineering, I also think that people who do it either need to (1) come from money, (2) marry money, or (3) learn to eat Ramon noodles and not complain.

Apparently I was even in the UK during the student protests and never knew about them. Those protesters are not doing their job right.

Schools with multi-billion dollar endowments charge kids $50k+ a year to learn something the school knows will provide little in the way of financial sustenance. Any individual student may not be clear on their long term viability, career wise, but the schools know.

I agree that the subject, and many others, are valuable in many ways. Perhaps they should no longer be majors but instead should be minors and only those who go on to grad school can focus $50k/year on such matters.

And, I'd be agreeable to requiring that all engineering and business majors be required to minor in a liberal arts field.

I've told my kids no matter what they choose to focus upon they will at least graduate with a minor in business so they can either open a really successful renaissance literature bookstore or go work for a company that pays them in money vs. granola, tie dye and hemp bracelets.

So protesting on wall street makes no sense to me when any transgression (real or imagined) is a govt deal.

Like Priceless said, wall street is a symbolism at several different levels. Point of origin of the financial crisis, financial center of business, government corruption by business etc... Probably trying to garner the anger and resentment clearly shown in 2008 with the 700billion TARP bailout of the banks. (I've never seen Don Young look so worried/scared after getting hundreds/thousands of angry calls on the bailout from constituents).

I watched Charlie Rose and didn't realize Michael Lewis wrote the recent movie "Moneyball". or the "blindside". Strange that my views on the 2008 financial meltdown is echoed by him. 1. free market (let banks fail) 2. nationalize (restructure/regulate) 3. bailout/guarantee and fix the problem later (what we did badly). he also picked 2 (which treasury and Fed argued, they didn't have the power to take over investment bank/insurance companies)

I think the next book2movie Big Short (about the 2008 financial meltdown Winners) will be interesting, if made, supposedly also starring Brad Pitt. Probably much better than the Oliver Stone's Wall street sequel.
Almost what I wanted: the protagonist (hedgefund) making m/billions betting against wall street. It would've been better if we made Goldman Sach bond trader the (anti) hero. making money on both long and short side. while the world collapsed.

Purely situational. My closest decent sports bar (venting: the one 30 miles from my house) has a mean level of educational attainment of about 6th grade, and it's the most fun place I've ever been to watch a game.

The Morloks have their place, too. Heavy furniture needs to be moved. Daughters from abusive fathers need to be consoled. It's all part of God's Plan.
