Like placing an ad in the Islamabad Gazette on 9/12/2001: "the United States will, upon the presentation of the head of Osama bin Laden at any American embassy, provide the bearer with $1 billion, a full pardon, and lifetime protection."

That would have made AQ a very interesting place to work.

Despite Obama's continued ignoring of the Gay marriage issue, New York has passed their gay marriage amendment. One more state allowing for gay people to be as miserable as straight people :D

Can we just take a moment to shout out to those jurors in Chicago who convicted that cheap crook Blagojevich? He needs to be put under the prison. Apparantly none of his corruption is linked directly to the president or the new mayor for which we should all be grateful. Illinois sets very high standards for its governors. Otto Kerner (a graduate of my high school) had been promoted to federal judge when he was impeached and sent to federal prison for auctioning off race dates at Arlington Park. Personal note: Kerner's nephew was a pretty good buddy of mine and the governor volunteered to give the commencement address at his graduation. The high school turned him down because of a now 135 year tradition of having students only give the address. Good call.

This. Funny thing is, I suspect Blagojevich was being completely sincere when he said he was "stunned." The big question with him wasn't whether he was guilty, but which of these he is.

Where does just plain stupid fit in? I grew up in the 'burbs during the regime of the first Mayor Daley. And he and his goons always talked about "services," meaning the services they'd provide you in return for which you pledged your electoral loyalty. Whatever his shortcomings, Dick Daley wasn't stupid enough to discuss criminal matters on the 'phone. And neither was his son. This guy is in a class by himself, greedy and stupid. Lethal. He'll have years to contemplate his failings. I grew up with Paul Douglas, Ev Dirksen, Paul Simon, Chuck Percy and the Stevensons, now this. Bleh.

From what the interwebz are telling me:
The White House announced earlier today that former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray would take the helm at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. A few hours later, @BreakingNews announced that the President would also be making a “personal” announcement. We can confirm through Mediaite White House Correspondent Tommy Christopher that the announcement is one in the same, as the press calendar for tomorrow does, in fact, have a “personnel announcement” scheduled for the Rose Garden tomorrow at 1:05 P.M.

The News corp phone hacking scandal keeps getting weirder.

London police say Sean Hoare, the whistleblower reporter who alleged widespread hacking at the News of the World, has been found dead. Fox News had this to say: Police said Hoare's death at his home in England was not considered to be suspicious.

Hmmm...
