Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

For those who have been listening, Rachel Maddow has been pointing out that hypocrisy since day one.

Yes, but many of the regressives around here don't pay attention to Maddow. Maybe they'll listen to one of their own.

If you can get Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, or Beck to say it you might have a shot. Some clown in Wisconsin is not going to do it.

Well, seeing how that clown is the GOP majority leader in the state senate, they might pay attention.

Then again, they have no defense, so we probably won't hear from anyone on the right until they get new talking points issued and they are set to reveal the latest outrage.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

The reason why "nobody's listening" to Butch Maddow is, at least insofar as Wisconsin's budget situation is concerned, she's a liar by the clock. And Politifact agrees. She spent a ten minute segment announcing that instead of an imbalance, Wisconsin actually has a budget surplus. And that even if there was a budget imbalance, it happens to be the exact amount of tax cuts backed by the governor. Well, the guy who wrote the memo from which she drew her conclusions says she's wrong, that she failed to include about 300 million in obligations. And the tax cuts don't take effect until July, hard to see how they're responsible for a current shortfall.

Doesn't change the fact that busting the unioin has nothing to do with the budget. Which was the main point that Rachel has been making all along.

And that proved to be true, as the bargaining was stripped out of the budget bill, and voted on separately.

http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/lo...cle_8747fa04-4a74-11e0-8e6b-001cc4c03286.html

In a surprise move late Wednesday, Senate Republicans used a series of parliamentary maneuvers to overcome a three-week stalemate with Democrats and pass the governor's controversial budget repair bill.

With a crowd of protesters chanting outside their chambers, Senators approved an amended version of Gov. Scott Walker's bill, which would strip most collective bargaining rights from public employees. The new bill removes all fiscal elements of the proposal but still curbs collective bargaining and increases employee payments in pension and health benefits.

How, pray tell, they managed to strip all the fiscal pieces of the bill out is beyond me.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Wow. They went ahead and passed that? Good luck getting elected again.

And since they figured obeying the law is for suckers that aren't Republicans, they skipped using Wisconsin's Open Meetings Act which requires a 24 hour wait before a vote on a piece of legislation. So, they'll get to explain to a judge why it was necessary to pass this 22 hours faster.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Amusing
"The Senate Democrats have had three weeks to debate this bill and were offered repeated opportunities to come home, which they refused," Walker said. "In order to move the state forward, I applaud the Legislature's action today to stand up to the status quo and take a step in the right direction to balance the budget and reform government."
Ya, 3 weeks to come back when you yourself had expressed intent to force the bill through as soon as they did without any kind of discussion.

"They have been saying all along that this is a fiscal item; we've been saying it is not," said Sen. Jon Erpenbach, D-Waunakee, from Illinois. "They have been lying. Their goal is to bust up the unions."
Oh and we now know that it was a political move by them for the long term goal of breaking up unions and trying to affect the next presidential election.

Seriously, **** republicans and the talking heads who support them.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

It doesn't even matter what happens in Wisconsin as a result of all of this. Walker is a star. He's set. Cue the book deals and speaking fees.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

What's happening in Michigan is even worse than what happened in Madison.

How dare you muddy the water with facts!?

Odd that we haven't heard anything from the right about this.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

I'd have to see what the new bill in Michigan is actually changing. I just spent half an hour looking over news sites and didn't find anything. I'll look tomorrow for the actual bill. The state took over Detroit Public schools for six years in 1999 already and Granholm appointed an emergency financial manager in 2009 for DPS.

So the mechanism they're describing is already there. I presume the part that people are in an uproar about is the part about being able to rip up contracts, assuming that's new?

In the event of a "Fiscal Emergency" as declared by the Governor can replace a local mayor and elected officials and declare the suspension of local laws. It also allows that appointed official to cut bargaining rights to police, fire, teachers. The House version which passed left language in there that the appointed officials could be corporations, and that the appointed official could be payed more than the governor, which is 159,000 dollars.

Thats how I understand it. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong.

I'll have to look up the bills and probably the old (current?) law. As it was, the Governor couldn't just declare it, there had to be certain benchmarks reached (or failed) for it to reach that stage, which is why it's only been brought out a handful of times. I vaguely recall the city or school board in Detroit tying up the 1999 thing in the courts for a while over them, but I was 19 and drinking most of the time then, so who knows. Odds are I'll be back later this week in a frothing rage, given how the Republicans have been acting nationwide.

Then why just make up stuff between weight lifting sessions? Why be dishonest? Why not tell the truth? Why? Why? Why? Possibly because the truth doesn't matter to people who reside in the fever swamp. As it doesn't seem to matter to you. Richard's lies are justified because there's a "larger" truth? Peddle that relativism somewhere's else.

Teachers unions should be busted. And the sooner we get about this necessary business the sooner we have a chance of improving the worst education system among all industrialized nations. Two out of three high school kids in Milwaukee fail to graduate: a triumph of teachers unions? That statistic would be worse if there were no teachers unions? Don't kid a kidder.

Hypocracy at its best.

At least you're consistent.
