I admit I'm completely irrational when it comes to the South. I really, really, really hate the South, and the closer I live to it, the more I hate it. The only positive things I can think of about the South are the cooking is better than the rest of the country, the girls are pretty, and southerners with old money are the only people left in the US with manners.

The other thing that gets me is this uber-nationalism the south seems to have...until they have to compromise too much and then they look to succeed.

Also, I'll take a Minnesota scandinavian blonde over an english-whatever you find in the south any day.

There are statuesque blondes in the south who would make your Norwegian Bachelor Farmer eyes spin -- trawl the Duke campus someday. Granted, they are not natural blondes.

This country doesn't work because 50% want one thing and the other 50% want the other thing. We either have to actually start practicing being a Republic or we need to change the way we do business entirely.

We'd be way better off if the South had won the war.

I doubt it. I don't think we needed an Apartheid South Africa on our doorstep in 1941. That would have been a little too chancy.

So, in your opinion, conservatives in the aerospace industry vote that way because it benefits them. (Plausible).

But then liberals in the sciences vote the way they do due to something else, something higher than pure self benefit? I don't know about that.

Why should that logic extend to only one group of people?

Or maybe more accurately, the economic conservatives encourage everyone to be greedy for themselves. But, it has to be their own efforts at being greedy, not a handout from a greedy government.

Those shareholders/CEOs obviously do not want the government to be greedy and funnel hundreds of billions of tax dollars to them. They would rather the government be tiny, their corporations to go bankrupt but each working man own a villa and a private jet.
