dems hate the bill because it extends the tax cuts (Albeit temporarily)
repubs hate the bill because it includes the unemployment benefits and only extends the tax cuts temporarily
the public should hate the bill because both of those big ticket items extend the deficit


i dont doubt that some of these measures may ultimately stimulate the economy (though which one specifically is anyones guess) but it seems like more throwing money at the problem.

Late to the party but here's my $0.02.

Nearly all of the engineers I knew in school were conservative. Nearly all of the engineers I've worked with are conservative. I know a few liberal engineers but they were vastly outnumbered. This is minnesota we're talking about, where liberals more or less dominate.

Scientists who work in the labs, I've found, tend to lean to the liberal side of things. This is purely, 100% Grade-A, anecdotal, but I thought I'd add it.

That being said, who gives a ****?

That was very sad to watch. Those firefighters are getting the shaft and there is a big hole in their care between workman's comp and their health insurance. Workman's comp folks are actually fighting their claims every step of the way.

I'm absolutely shocked that Obama would do such a thing.

First, do you actually believe that Obama is making decisions to execute military strategy regarding the hiring of contractors? Lets just say that those decisions are made steps below his level...if you think he should fire Petraeus and the military hierarchy that's another matter.

Second, it points out that the military is waay bloated and out of date. If its stuck with rusting tanks and troops in Germany...its needs to gut itself and rebuild for the 21st century. Its been obvious to a handful of us for some time that's its poorly set up for a noncold war world. Revamping it may not be a task we as a country can take on for a couple of years due to the economy...but we can start by cutting dead weight.
