Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

I'm more concerned about having open primaries. Something to be very concerned about in 2012 I think. Think of how many Democrats will cross over to vote Palin.

Remember how effective "Operation Chaos" was? And that was the country's leading rabblerouser and his self-declared army of dittoheads.

The number of people who vote strategically in that way is dwarfed by the number of people who can't figure out why the touch screen isn't making toast.

Don't you think it's a bit of a different dynamic though without a competitive primary on the other side?

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

In all of the caucus only states you mentioned, that includes GOP as well as DEMS? I just have this factoid rolling around in my head that there are states where D's have caususes and R's have primaries. I would have thought, since the parties are private, independent organizations, that the states would have nothing to say about how they conduct their nominating process. Perhaps on the dates, but if the Repubicans want to draw straws to apportion delegates in Idaho, what business is that of the state government?

Maine is an example of a state where the Democrats caucus and the Republicans have a primary

Sure it would help, but I still think that sort of fifth column stuff doesn't work effectively above the local schoolboard level. You can load a county commission or a city council with a bunch of loons if you work really hard and the weather's bad that day, but once you get to the state level, there's just too many people to overwhem, even in a podunk state like IA or NH.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Watching the Obama press conference now, both the AP and NBC opening with actual tough questions.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Are you serious? It's hard to believe without seeing it.

First question was, "After last night, who better speaks for the American people: You or John Boehner?"

Second one was, "Are you second guesing any policy or failure to communicate? Is it possible voters are saying you are not getting it?"

Third question just now, "Do you believe health care reform is in danger at this point?"

Not bad. I'm guessing he's not used to facing this kind of stuff.

Since the Dems still control the senate, and Obama has the power of the veto on top of that...I'm guessing no.

The first two were tough. That one's just asinine.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Yep, now we're drifting into the silly territory, talking about Slurpees and car metaphors.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

The car metaphor has now been amended. Republicans didn't have it in reverse, they were pushing it in the wrong direction. Now we're "stuck in neutral".

how did they push it in the wrong direction before, if it wasn't in neutral? They must each have strength as of ten men, stemming from inner goodness and purity.

Has anyone heard from Rover? I'm a little concerned about him after the big government beat down, but wanted to point out there's at least one way the stronger dollar will benefit his personal life.

I don't know exactly how the Senate rules work, but if the health bill passed through the reconciliation procedures, can it be repealed through that process? The 47 GOP votes, plus Manchin, Lieberman, Nelson, and Webb? Or is even starting the reconciliation process something the majority is in control of?

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Health Care is like abortion. The last thing Republicans want is for it to be repealed. They'll just fulminate against it forever; it's a magical vote machine. The great thing about it is even if it works health care will still be expensive and people will always think it's to blame, so it's evergreen.

Even if you had the votes to pass something against the majority leader by reconciliation, he still controls the docket, so it will never come to a vote.

Please tell me the American people are smart enough to take the first Congressman who brays impeachment and Fredo her on some lake in Minnesota? Do we really want impeachment to sink to the level of the Clinton fiasco whenever Congress and the presidency are split, forever?

1. Not smart enough.
2. Michelle Bachmann is rumored for a leadership position. She would LOVE to impeach Obama.
3. Maybe Obama has some hoochie going on with Monica version 2.0? That would be some grounds right there.
