Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

The public isn't that sophisticated in how they vote. In general, they're happy as long as they are doing well financially and if things aren't too messy overseas, in that order. Making any sort of sweeping conclusion from one election or another on socialism or conservatism or whatever is a gross simplification at best.

Largely, but there still is a very different perspective some hold vs others based on political leanings. I still don't expect VT to be voting GOP nor UT for a Dem next presidential election.

These leanings are not sophisticated but real nonetheless.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

It's so cute to watch you conservatives defend this stuff. How about this. Since States are truly the incubators for ideas before they go to the federal government, how about all the RED STATES put their money where there mouth is and stop accepting federal money?

Oh for crying out loud. I've already said it is pretty ****ed hypocritical. All I'm saying is that the line about using presidential preferences is idiotic.

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

Not as cute as you trying to make a direct correlation between federal spending in states and whether they are conservative, ignoring the plethora of other factors.

Too funny.

I get to subsidize West Virginia because of factors? Why do they get to spend more then they put in? Minnesota not only has to balance it's State budget but it pays MORE to the Feds then it gets back. I'm subsidizing everyone else and that's BS.

Oh for the love of god, are we back on this one again?

Here, let me summarize the next 20 posts for you:

Reds suck off gov't teet.
Do you really want a nuclear testing facility in Minnesota as opposed to a desert?
Ok, but that's just one state.
Really want an interstate highway system that stops at the Minnesota border?
Sure, I don't want to goto North Dakota anyway. How about those farming subsidies?
Yes, those are pure gov't waste.
Hah, told you.
Must take a large naval base to patrol those 10,000 lakes, right?
Bah, we'll take an army base, though.

The whole line of thinking put out in this thread that conservatives states should foreswear federal dollars coming into their states is one of the more nonsensical and simplistic arguments I've heard in a long time. A lot of the federal dollars that come to states are to help, at least to some extent, states meet various federal mandates on the states. Health care is one of the largest and most obvious examples. Other stuff, like military spending, is to a sizable extent due to where bases and facilities were placed, often long ago. You can't just have Alaska say to the feds to not spend a dollar on the military installations in Alaska or something. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm with you on this one. Scooby's fixation on this is becoming legendary.

Exclude the military from the equation. Everyone has the same mandates.

Now, give me my money back.

You'd probably dial things back to the Articles of Confedation, or even further, eh? I'll blast the feds as much as anyone, but to pretend there aren't a lot of important federal functions that result in uneven spending around the country is quite interesting on your part.

Worst thing that ever happened is the North winning the civil war so we ended up having to carry all that dead weight around.

Good thing that it makes total sense at the individual level, even if it doesn't at the state level. ;-)

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

One day in the future, Barack Obama has a heart-attack and dies.

He immediately goes to hell, where the devil is waiting for him.

"I don't know what to do here," says the devil. "You are on my list, but I have no room for you. You definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I've got a couple of folks here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves."

Obama thought that sounded pretty good, so the devil opened the door to the first room.

In it was Ted Kennedy and a large pool of water. Ted kept diving in, and surfacing, empty handed. Over, and over, and over he dived in and surfaced with nothing. Such was his fate in hell.

"No," Obama said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer, and I don't think I could do that all day long."

The devil led him to the door of the next room.
In it was Al Gore with a sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after time.
"No, this is no good; I've got this problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day," commented Obama.

The devil opened a third door. Through it, Obama saw Bill Clinton, lying on the bed, his arms tied over his head, and his legs restrained in a spread-eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.

Obama looked at this in shocked disbelief, and finally said, "Yeah man, I can handle this."

The devil smiled and said .. . . . .

(This is priceless...)

"OK, Monica, you're free to go."

Making any sort of sweeping conclusion from one election or another on socialism or conservatism or whatever is a gross simplification at best.

But... the Republican Party freed the slaves!!! ;)

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

I'd add into that the fact that only 7% of his inner group have any private sector experience yet they are trying to fix/grow the private sector.

7%, eh? Yeah, I'm sure that's a real number and not just talk radio blather.

This sounds a lot like a party that continually fulminates against government while continuing in office.

One wonders why people who believe they should "drown government in a bathtub" are so perversely drawn to serving in government. Maybe they're opportunists just using different means to cash in for themselves. Or maybe they just aren't able to get another job. :)
