About as long as it takes Michelle to turn the curtains into a dress.

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

Tundra: how on earth did arrive at the conclusion that our volunteer military has no honor or sense of duty? How can you feel comfortable smearing hundreds of thousands of people, none of whom you know? I was, to put it mildly, enraged when I read that ignorant and factually incorrect post. Man, it's like you're channeling Bill Ayers. I've said it before and I'll say it again, prejudice and bigotry are always ugly.

The fact is, collectively, the men and women who serve in our military are far better Americans than you and all the other progressive snot balls, born and unborn, put together.

You should be deeply ashamed for advancing such an argument. . .I doubt you are.

The Democrats are being Democrats again and are trying to pass the DREAM Act when nobody is looking... this should double over to the illegal alien thread... but I figure this another example of the Democrat party's aversion to well-informed public.

What's with the hero worship of our military personnel? or for that matter police and firemen by certain political spectrum. These are people like you and me... no better and no worse, until they do something heroic beyond line of duty.

The point stand on career professionals doing it for mainly financial reasons. Hence so many leave the military service and go into mercenary outfits like blackwater PMC (private military contractor). And why we need bigger pay increases to retain the troops and no out clause to keep our "volunteer" army.

For every Tillman serving our country from sense of duty , over 9/11 we have dudes "serving" our country from gangs, desperation and killjoy... like the sergeant and several others from Fort Rich in Anchorage charged with killing of civilians in Iraq and forcing others to keep quiet about it under threat of death.

A fireman is a hero by default. Just ask one. He'll tell you so. Eight ways to Sunday and sideways up your *** the other six days of the week.

Somebody else want to argue with this guy? I'm about done.

Apart from preaching from the "progressive" gospels, how can you possibly make or substantiate such a ludicrously untrue statement--that it's only draftees who give our military honor and a sense of duty?

Naturally what those guys Fort Rich are ACCUSED of doing (but not yet convicted of, a distinction which libs are at great pains to make when it comes to Mumia abu Jamal or some of your other heroes) becomes the standard by which you judge nearly two million GI's. You have no problem smearing them with your ugly prejudice. You would scream bloody murder (and rightly so) if a conservative poster made similarly bigoted statements about African Americans or gays or Latinos, but you effortlessly slander hundreds of thousands of people whose only "crime" is serving their country. And to be sure, veterans are the only people in our society who should be unable to use their training and experience to get better paying jobs. There ought to be a law, right?

You are ignorant, bigoted and mean-spirited. You know absolutely nothing about the people who serve in our military nor for that matter anything about our military at all. There are three liberal tropes on display in your posts. Either people who serve in our military are unfit to do anything else or they are somehow victims of the military industrial complex and the endemic racism in our society or they're greedy mercenaries, in it only for the money.

And thanks for straigtening me out. Here I thought the nearly 500 firefighters who died on 9/11 trying to save the lives of others were universally admired and respected. But thanks to your bigoted insight, I learn that only members of a "political spectrum" respect their sacrifice. You and Susan Sontag and Ward Churchill are way too smart for that. Right? They went into the World Trade Center for the money. Of course.

You and your progressive pals like to say "we support the troops, we just don't support the wars." Well thanks to the honesty of your posts we know you and your lefty buddies don't support the troops. You detest them. After all, they're murderers and criminals, you said so yourself. You think they're the instruments of American imperialism, etc, etc, and no doubt deserve what they get in Iraq and Afghanistan. So I'm grateful to you for giving the lie to that lib b.s. once and for all.

Let me tell you something, the average trooper in Iraq or Afghanistan does stuff every single day that would make you crap in your pants. They don't have to do anything beyond the call of duty to get the respect of the overwhelming majority Americans. That young sergeant who was awarded the Medal of Honor says other guys do what he did, everyday. For sure you aren't good enough to serve with them. So stay home and continue to slander them and their service. -30-

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

It doesn't matter whether troops serve because they passed up Harvard Yacht Club for it, because it's the family business running back to Richard S. Ewell, or because "they got nowhere else to go!" We respect them because we respect the risk they take on behalf of all of us. Yes, some are good eggs, some are bad eggs, most are in the middle (the invariant 1:8:1 rule of life). But just like a president, even when the guy is a tool, you still respect the office.

Add in the fact that it's a hard, hard life -- much harder than anything anybody here is ever likely to face -- and we respect them further because they deal with incredibly difficult, terrifying circumstances in the course of an ordinary day and, whatever the string of events or decisions that got them there, they are doing it in our name.

Anybody who commits criminal acts during their service is outside the military code and outside its ethic, and is tried and dealt with accordingly. There's psychosis in the army same as in the streets, but that's not the army or soldiering, it's that there are bad people everywhere from accounting to the Mets bullpen to the mosque. Branding the larger group is ignorant, bigoted and lazy. Except perhaps the Mets bullpen.

Who nobody respects are the crass opportunists who use the troops as human shields for their jeremiads. Hiding behind the troops to deflect criticism is an old, transparent trick.

I would, but my guts hurt too much. I'm not sure whether it's the Gulf War Syndrome symptoms acting up again or because I'm laughing myself stupid reading what this ingrate is writing.

Free speech. it's awesome.

but I can and will disagree w/you. how can you get into the heads of other people, that would be an amazing gift!

seriously though, we respect the troops for everything oldpio and kepler said and more.

I don't care if it's the grunt serving chow on a ship, or Dick Winters, Ira Hayes, or any of the kids serving in Afghanistan or right here at home. Heroes, all of them. The ones who eff up, fine, the military deals with them in the manner they deserve...and I'd add expect.

Too slander the overwhelming majority of these men and women for the actions of a miniscule, and I mean MINISCULE percentile is just wrong.

and as for police and firemen, we'll check back in when you're in need. see if you've changed your tune.

no way in hell I'd want to be a beat cop in many parts of chicago or milwaukee, yet guys do it because we need them too. and some of them end up giving their lives to try and keep us safe.

Beating the dead horse

I give you two articles - one from here and one from there:

Here
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/20/AR2010092005699.html?hpid=topnews

There
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...ions-use-of-accountants-to-cut-tax-bills.html

Me thinks the moral here is to simplify the Tax Code, and use it as a means for raising revenue, not as a means of social change.

IRRC, Reagan's original tax code reform was a 10% tax on everything, no deductions at all. When it got to the Congress, state tax deductions got added back, as well as the mortgage interest deduction plus other goodies. Since then, more goodies have been added while some have been taken away.

Think anyone could get elected by saying toss the tax code and start again??

Re: Obama XVI: Muslin curtains in the White House!!!

I don't think anybody but tax lawyers will argue against simplicity. :)
