Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

And in an interesting twist, NASA is now apparently a leading foreign policy arm of the federal government.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/06/nasa-official-walks-claim-muslim-outreach-foremost-mission/

Seems like an obvious suggestion that their focus ought to be aeronautics and space, rather than Muslim outreach?

Remember that discussion yesterday on Muslim/Christian scientists...yeah, it was about that. They say that memory is the first thing to go. :p

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

It's important to differentiate. Apparently Reagan and Bush did some space stuff related to Muslims. But your link shows nothing approaching proclaiming Muslim outreach the foremost mission of NASA as was recently done.

Because the space stuff Reagan and Bush did was... not outreach?

The story here was OMG!!!1!!1 Muslims. It wouldn't have freaked people out if it were Greeks or Germans.

Sometimes the easy smear misfires. It's no big deal, but splitting hairs just makes it more embarrassing.

No. The story is how idiotic it is for NASA's foremost mission to be to reach out to Muslims. Show me any evidence that Bush or Reagan pronounced outreach to Muslims to be the foremost mission of NASA, and I'll gladly concede.

No wonder interest in NASA is nowhere near what is used to be when they focus on this.

Don't worry too much about his hysterics, Bob. Kepler has kind of a knee-jerk reaction when it comes to anyone suggesting something negative about anything that has to do with Muslims. You see, Kepler believes that his arch-nemeses, Christian fundamentalists (which are out to get him, if you didn't know) all hate everything about every Muslim ever, and if you have something bad to say about something related to Islam, you, I'm sorry to say, are a Christian fundamentalist. If you believe one word of the Bible, you're one too, but that's different.

Focus your "magic mind rays" on him and he'll cower in fear. I'm afraid he's not 100% convinced that the tinfoil on his hat will protect him.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Simple facts are a knee jerk reaction? I didn't care about any of the weirdo trinity, holy ghost talk, but to say Jesus was a well documented historic figure has no basis in reality. The same amount of evidence could make Sherlock Holmes or Harry Potter real.

And saying that creationists are misguided xtions who forget about all the Jesus stuff is just ignorant that up until rather recently the OT was taken to be quite literal. Non-creationist xtians are the new kids on the block.

??

Jesus was very well documented from multiple angles and many events were witnessed by multiple people of the time...who pretty much agreed on events. There is no comparison with the old testament.

Also if you're a Christian...you do believe that he is at least son of God and nearly always, God himself. And therefore if you look at God's word (what They want us to know), there is pretty much no reference to the origin of the world...and tons about how to behave as people.

I just got to know...are you a Christian that thinks Christ is not important? Or as is often the case, a nonbeliever? I regularly run into folks who try to position the religion as bizarre to make their own position more reasonable.

I actually find Kepler one of the better folks to discuss things with on this board, even if we usually disagree on this kind of stuff. In this particular case, I don't think his conclusions are flawed, but he's a lot better than a number of the lefties on here that go nuts all the time.

Give me EODS or dxmn any day. They're far more rational about their conclusions.

No, he wasn't. Josephus (known to be tampered with, born after Jesus would have died, and no other mention of that passage in other works that he did dealing with the same time) Pliny (way late and describes xtians and their beliefs) Tacitus (more tampering, a description of xtian beliefs, and again after Jesus would have been dead for a long time) and the handful of other sources are all like that.

Accounts of Jesus were written by people born after he would have died, by people who never possibly could have met him, or after the gospels had finally been written down. Paul for example who was about 3 decades after the death and it's admitted that he never physically met Jesus. The gospels themselves can't even match up on when and where he was born.

One word pretty much describes the sources, hearsay.

Also if you're a Christian...you do believe that he is at least son of God and nearly always, God himself. And therefore if you look at God's word (what They want us to know), there is pretty much no reference to the origin of the world...and tons about how to behave as people.
No cause that stuff is covered in the OT. The book begins with explaining how the abrahamic god created everything.

Claiming that Jesus has the more important message is one thing but the guy draws all his perceived authority by pointing to the Jewish religion as the basis for his existence. That he's an extension of that god, not some new one.
I just got to know...are you a Christian that thinks Christ is not important? Or as is often the case, a nonbeliever? I regularly run into folks who try to position the religion as bizarre to make their own position more reasonable.
Nonbeliever.

And this thread is about the gov't not xtians.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Speaking of religion, this is hilarious...

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/na...aled_guns_in_church/srvc=home&position=recent

Do we really need handguns in church? I don't know about Louisiana residents, but whenever I attend services I never felt the need to pack heat.

What idiots. :D

The headline is kind of misleading I think. It's not like it's Bring Your Gun to Church day every Sunday. It has to be part of a special security force, with mandatory extra training. An article I read cited the need for them in inner city churches, seeing as I've never been to one, I'm kind of skeptical of that, but like I said I wouldn't know.

For that matter... can't we just get rid of the Constitution? It makes it so hard for us to impose our will on the sheeple the way we should. I mean, we're so much smarter than them, they need us to tell them how to live their lives.

"It's just a piece of paper."

Someone said that fairly recently, weren't no libbie, though.

some of the less pleasant humans (gangs) tend to use funerals as a place to do things... though I think you'll get a lot of conservatives who say "stuff can happen anywhere, any time, so why not?"
