Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

You do. They're only following the literal word.

Well, the Earth is only a few thousand years old, and was created over a period of 6 days. And on the 8th Day, after His day of rest, God created Monday Night Football ... :D

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

You've got a say in who is in government, but that's where it ends. When the government makes a decision that makes your life miserable, you can't just choose another government tomorrow. Even on election day, you don't always get the government YOU want.

Sure you can. You're free to hike up and go to whatever nation's government best allows you to fulfill your Galt-ian fantasies.

I heard the neo-cons were constructing a free-market utopia over there in Iraq. Might want to check that out.

That was supposed to be the beauty of states' rights. If you didn't like the policies of your state you could pack up and move. Unfortunately, the Federal gov't has increased in size and scope to the point where what differences there are in the states make little difference as a part of the whole.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Yeah, yeah, we know you've got a knee-jerk negative reaction to this sort of thing -- even when everyone else is being civil. Now that you're finished making yourself feel good, I'll point out that everything you're rambling about is irrelevant to what everyone has been talking about.

All "movements" have basis in something, and thus far here it seems pretty simple there are differences between those governed by the Old and New Testaments. I mean, extrapolating -- Jews and Christians are different sects for a reason, and the emphases each place on each testament is a huge facet of that. That's just the reality. Better to deal with that than with your own bitter issues with that reality.
Simple facts are a knee jerk reaction? I didn't care about any of the weirdo trinity, holy ghost talk, but to say Jesus was a well documented historic figure has no basis in reality. The same amount of evidence could make Sherlock Holmes or Harry Potter real.

And saying that creationists are misguided xtions who forget about all the Jesus stuff is just ignorant that up until rather recently the OT was taken to be quite literal. Non-creationist xtians are the new kids on the block.

Largest urban areas in the United States, 1790.

You don't think maybe it's easier to run a country without a strong central government under those conditions?

Mo' people, mo' problems. We are a long way from the Jeffersonian agrarian ideal.

We've already settled this. No, you can't own slaves.

Are you insinuating that Harry Potter isn't real?

I'm curious to see what "tack" you libs are going to take with your (literal) poster boy Levi's recent wholesale retractions.
You could just ignore it and pretend you never adored him, but that's more boring than tears of anguish over his inconstant heart.

Any time they want another lesson, though...

Why would more people mean that you have to have a centralized gov't? One would think that the more people the more centers of gov't you would want.

If its so much easier to run the country with a centralized gov't then why not get rid of states altogether and just have a national gov't?

I think cars, cellphones, and internets make more sense for the increased viability of a strong central gov't than straight up population figures. In the old days someone had to sail around south america to tell people in California what happened in NY. Now, the glorious ideal of one nation united under Dear Leader, with a McDonalds and WalMart in every town, is attainable through the wonders of technology and "community activism".

You're arguing two different things here.

On (1), eliminating duplication and waste, taking advantage of economy of scale and a unified command (why a national army is better than 50 state armies).

On (2), "easier" isn't always better. I rather like having a competing power center in the states to prevent the federal government from turning into an efficient tyranny (why 50 state police departments is better than a national police force).

The Arizona kerfuffle is fun because it falls squarely between the two cases.

Everyone knows that the problems people have in New York and Los Angeles are exactly the same as the problems people have in... uh, whatever falls between those two cities. Thus, we need a one size fits all government.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

For that matter... can't we just get rid of the Constitution? It makes it so hard for us to impose our will on the sheeple the way we should. I mean, we're so much smarter than them, they need us to tell them how to live their lives.

Are you actually implying that the government is involved in solving people's problems?

I believe the rest of us are called flyover states.

Two words. Who. Cares. Same view I've always had.
