Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Here's an interesting compilation of polls. Now to review, are Tea Party supporters:
a) undead demons from the bowels of Hades which GW Bush called forth to slay black people,
b) astroturf purchased and installed by Haliburton for Republicans to play flag football on, or
c) Real people

D) Real white older people with racist tendencies who are ignorant on the issues but like pleasant sounding buzzwords.

"I don't really understand it, but I like what they stand for," says Terry Rushing, 63, of Greensburg, La., who was among those surveyed. "They just support everything I'm looking for — lower taxes, less government. ... All the good things, you know."

Nearly half say blacks lag in jobs, income and housing "because most African Americans just don't have the motivation or willpower to pull themselves up out of poverty." One-third of non-supporters agree.

I would love to see some statistic on how many people who were raised in poverty were able to "pull themselves up" and how many of these people actually did so.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Terry Rushing was also quoted saying "Get the Feds away from my Medicare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That was a fascinating stat. Nearly half the "tea party" people figger there's something wrong with black people, and 1/3 (nearly the same proportion) of everyone else agrees. That's a lot of people.
But think about the wording of that question, it's length, and how much of it you would listen to if you were taking a phone poll (the whole question isn't here; it starts "do you agree completely, agree somewhat...". People get reversed). I question the results' accuracy.
But even if a little off, it's surprising.

And black liberals are just lazy welfare folk who are a drain on the budget. See!

I never thought this day would happen. I won’t have to work on puttin’ gas in my car. I won’t have to work at payin’ my mortgage. You know. If I help him [Obama], he’s gonna help me.

Or is that racist because i said black?

Just making sure... because conventional wisdom is stupid, this bears repeating. The government does not provide Medicare. Nor do they provide roads, schools, Social Security or anything else. These are things we've all pitched in for with our own earnings. The government cannot contribute anything to society, or increase any freedom to do anything. They can only create these illusions by taking things away and removing freedoms.
Again: your Medicare & Social Security are paid for by your own money, or another citizen's whether or not you believe personally that it's your best investment.

Pelosi - unemployment checks are a job creator

If thats the case then the gov't should be giving everyone a check. I mean imagine how many jobs we would create if everyone got an unemployment check along with their work check.
The lack of understanding of basic economics in this country is simply staggering, especially among people with decision-making power.

That's like saying Microsoft doesn't provide software, Windows is paid by your own money, or another customer's, whether or not you think it's a good investment.

Medicare and Social Security are federal programs. Semantics aside, paying for them with taxpayer money doesn't make it any less of a Government program. If there was no federal government, there would be no medicare.

Wrong. You're falling into Scooby's trap of thinking that because the check says "US Treasury" on it, that they're the ones providing the health care. The bureaucrats are not doctors in the way that Microsoft engineers are engineers, and the resources weren't created by them either. They're middlemen.
Misleading semantics are to suggest that the government is adding some value to the process.

Other than them being the ones running it.

The way you're trying to make it out to be is that businesses are really run by the customers since they're the ones funding the business by spending their money there.

No customers, no business, so who runs it?

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

You aren't paying for it with your own money, you're just redistributing your employer's money, whether they like it or not.

Everyone's money comes from somewhere else, government is no exception.

You left out All of the Above, but worse, you left out a Freddy Meyer reference.

(The real answer is, lonely people trying to get into one or more Palins' pants.)
