Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Quantifying the sources of the deficit, take them for what you will.

serious question, because I'm less knowledgeable of budget forecasts than I should be: Does that chart (which is almost all projection) account for the expiration of the "giveaway to the rich" this year? You'd think it must if the white house is using those numbers right?

Good question and one that occurred to me too.

Remember when Eisenhower betrayed Poland because he was a Red?

He wasn't a red. He was a Fifth Column fascist. He almost threw WW2 for a case of pils beer, a Betty Grable pinup and a subscription to Der Speigel. Good thing Patton slapped that boy around in Sicily. ;)

And when the moment came to support the people of Iran... you didn't.

Support . . . the . . . . .?

How quaint.

Here's a truth that's neither Left nor Right. Promotion of democracy abroad is the sugar that lets an inattentive public swallow power politics cough syrup.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

So, we've convinced ourselves that the deficit grows because rich people don't pay enough taxes? Spending is going up every single year...and the only way to contain it is to raise taxes on 10% of the people? How sustainable is that? And if they don't pay it then they are causing the deficit? Hardly. The deficit is caused by rampant spending and if the only way we can think of to contain the deficit is to increase taxes on a small fraction of the population then I'm taking the over.

Whatever you do Washington, don't reduce spending, don't promote business, don't promote job growth, just blame a small percentage of the population.

Caulk and duct tape for the deficit...don't fix it, just patch over it and blame somebody else.

Great leadership.

If they touched the defense budget, Republicans would accuse them of treason.

If they touched SSA or Medicare, Republicans would complain about Death Panels.

If they touched agriculture subsidies, they're killing the American Farmer (said in low, respectful tones).

What spending do you propose they cut?

Too funny.

The genie is out of the bottle dude. The right spends like a drunken sailor. The left spends like a drunken sailor. No cuts are possible because corporations control the purse strings, not the people. Lobbyists for the win.

Just for some examples. You going to cut Social Security? Just a month or so ago I said I would and everyone laughed and said I'd never be elected. You going to cut Medicare? I said I would and laughing ensued. You going to get the military out of Afghanistan, South Korea, Iraq, Germany, etc. etc. etc.? I would and I'll be laughed at.

So, what's going to be cut? Nothing. So, tax the rich into the stone age then CAUSE THAT'S ALL THAT'S LEFT.

Welcome to America.

If a nut like you was in office, they wouldn't wait for the election to toss you out.

So it appears its Clintons fault that the Sestak bribe didn't work. :p :p :p

Yes
Yes
Yes

And if you want to really go for the jugular, cut taxes so we can collect more money.

Run on that platform.

Run on that platform.

That's basically what Rand Paul is doing in Kentucky to some degree, let's see how that works out for him.

I'd lose by something like 10-90.

Now for a different tack, but what if the problems are not a crisis of leadership, but a crisis of followership???

We followers are not holding the leaders accountable for their actions, we are expecting less and less from them when we should be demanding more. We expect them to be corrupt when we should be demanding that they be honest.

We expect them to be mediocre when we should demand excellence.

Until we demand more, this country is not well served.
