Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

With the current trends of deadbeat dads, college attendance percentage etc. someday the question will be whether women let men vote.

That would actually require someone making a decision within the next two or three lifetimes ... ;)

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Nice little mess that Joe Sestak has thrust himself and the White House into. Back in February, he claims that someone in the administration had offered him a Federal job in exchange for dropping out of the Senate race against Specter. The White House denied it. So now there's an interesting little situation isn't there. Either Sestak is a liar, and he wasn't offered a position, which is bad news for him, or he's telling the truth, and someone in the executive branch committed a crime, which of course still isn't very good news for him.

Not quite as problematic upon further review, but he does need to S T F U. Not sure why he keeps bringing this up. Regarding offering him a job, they can do that as long as they didn't say "this is to keep you out of the race!!!". Most likely after Sestak gets slapped around by the WH in private he'll come out with a statement saying "I assumed it was to keep me out of the race but that was never made explicit".

Yeah, that's probably the most likely scenario. Although I kind of expect someone to get fired over this as well, no one huge obviously, but someone in the executive branch will get scapegoated here.

shocked. that this goes on in politics.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get the false piety here. How is this any different than getting a job offer from a competitor, and then giving your company a chance to beat the offer? Essentually that's what's going on here, so in this case politics = private sector.

so its legal if you wink it and not verbalize it? Stop apologizing for corruption.

Ahhh, stop whining. I remember a guy named Buddy Cianci, who was mayor of Providence on and off for about 30 years (and will be again). The guy was corrupt as the day is long but that city is far, far better off than it was before he got there.

Bottom line? Graft is good. Gets things done. :D Anybody claiming they're holier than thou usually ends up resigning after they're caught banging their secretary.

From the Department of Rare Venn Diagram Intersections, at lunch I saw a Palin sticker on a car with the tag "MONTY PY."
