Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

From the Department of Rare Venn Diagram Intersections, at lunch I saw a Palin sticker on a car with the tag "MONTY PY."
now see, this is why pigeonholing and stereotyping are overrated. Some of us appreciate hearing from both NPR and Limbaugh, to understand both "extreme" views (although I wouldn't advertise for either, let alone both at once).
Or maybe this guy just thought The Meaning of Life was a documentary. ;)

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

:D Thread over.

You would think, but since Kepler posted it no doubt Patman or Red Cloud will be out here saying how they don't like boobs and how boobs are really a crypto-socialist plot to have the gubmint run our lives. :D ;) :D

I would have pos-repped you if you had referenced 'The Life of Brian' instead. :p

I'm not sure I would describe anything on NPR as "extreme" unless we're discussing the cackling on Car Talk.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

No, Worthless, he's a racist. Get your talking points right.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Ahhh, stop whining. I remember a guy named Buddy Cianci, who was mayor of Providence on and off for about 30 years (and will be again). The guy was corrupt as the day is long but that city is far, far better off than it was before he got there.

Bottom line? Graft is good. Gets things done. :D Anybody claiming they're holier than thou usually ends up resigning after they're caught banging their secretary.

So, you're saying that such a transparent administration shouldn't be open to scrutiny for this?

I think for the sake of transparency a special prosecutor should be appointed. I mean, Obama can withstand this? Right?

Of course not.

edit: Rover, is that really a "the trains run on time" defense of Cianci? So, when are your ideals worth fighting for? Or maybe I misunderstand your ideals... maybe democracy is optional so long as the "right decisions" are made. Sorta the "noble king" model. It reminds me of Thomas Friedman's love of the Chi-coms.

I'm guessing that around 30% of thinking people agree with you that NPR's subtly proffered views are no more or less than "moderate". Probably, none of them can stand to hear Limbaugh's voice. But paying attention to word choices and tones can be interesting and enlightening. For example, some presidents are always "President Jones", and others are known only by their last name. The other day a reporter actually used the phrase "climate deniers" in a grave tone. Now who "denies" climate? They must be idiots! Right?
Car Talk is interesting itself in the diversity of audience it attracts. Something for everyone there.

Some respond to the murmur of the seminar, some to the bombast of the pulpit. It's probably much less about the objective content of the message than about what you were raised to believe constitutes a valid messaging style. Some of us believe a quiet delivery betrays lack of confidence, others that a loud delivery hides superficiality.

I watched James Carville on GMA this morning talking about the Adminstration's response to the BP spill. I thought he was going to explode. I can't imagine Axelrod or Emmanual will be too happy with him.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Just saw a report (lost the link) that FL Sen Bill Nelson wants the military to take over for BP! Will it help to yell "stop that!" at gunpoint?

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

I'm not sure I understand the desire to take over from BP. What possible incentive would BP have to not be doing everything possible to stop this spill?

It's always good to hear from the Clinton 2012 camp. :p

Might. I mean, I don't know what BP's problem is. Obama already told them to "just plug the **** hole."

If that's not leadership, I don't know what is. BP's problem the whole time was that they hadn't tried that yet.

(the adults are in charge, right fatboy?)

Ahhh yes, the special prosecutor. Because the last ones worked out so well. Is there any reasons why you cons always wet yourselves over these guys? See, I'm only in favor of one of those in extreme circumstances, not "lets put a rumor to bed by giving someone unlimited time, money and authority".

To your second point, you still live in a fantasy world of God-fearin' Christian conservative Republicans ruling with over us alongside The Lord Above who endorses them at the party convention. When will you realize, after decades of Craigs, Foleys, Souder's, etc etc etc that this image of yours is all BS? What I want is good governance. Much like in a job I would not care if a subordinate was cheating on his wife or girlfriend as long as his performance at work was good, I also don't care what non-criminal activity politicians are up to as long as they do their jobs well. Similarly, if a politician wants to line up a job for some crony once in awhile, so be it. Think of it as a perk of the office. :D

Want further proof? Who were the so-called most righteous Presidents in recent memory? Carter and Bush II. Who are the two worst Presidents in recent memory? Carter and Bush II. The defense rests.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

This isn't a hit on Obama, it's a hit on Bill Plaschke, but there's not really anywhere else to put it, so it goes here because it's somewhat topical.

For an American president, there is nothing of greater importance than reaching the American people. And there’s no better way of doing that than authentically sharing our passion for sports. Unlike any president before him, in ways that only true sports nuts will understand, Obama does that.

The First Fan is really a fan. He’s about more than an occasional first pitch or White House champion photo op. He’s about a wrinkled hometown baseball cap and weathered hometown loyalties and picking winners and spouting off at the heart.

He throws out the first pitch at a Washington Nationals game and, even though he’s wearing a Nationals jacket, at the last moment he pulls on a cap from the Chicago White Sox.

Real fans, even those of the Nationals and Chicago Cubs, have to respect that. They know your favorite team is forever. Was there anything worse than Illinois native Hillary Clinton wearing a New York Yankees cap while campaigning to become a New York senator?

Putting aside the whole "name one player from the White Sox" or the "Cominsky Field" aspect, I've got major beef with the idea that Obama's some kind of sports fan "unlike any other president."

I mean, you have to go all the way back to... um... 2008 to find a President who was a confirmed sports fan. I know it's considered bad form these days to praise GWB on... anything, but when it comes to a relatively unimportant part of being President - being a sports fan - it's hard to top a guy who, you know, owned the Texas Rangers. I know plenty of Democrats who thought (and think) that the country AND Major League Baseball would have been better off if he'd become MLB Commissioner instead of Bud Selig.

But then again, Bill Plaschke's kind of a moron. Anyone who's ever seen him on ATH can confirm.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

I could not care less whether a president shares popular passions. I'd almost prefer he doesn't. I watch Fresh Meat 2 and thoroughly enjoy it, but frankly I expect better from a head of state. Except Italy. I expect the president of Italy to not only watch reality TV shows but appear on them.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Not surprising that the biggest aristocrat (big being the level of psuedo-aristocracy, not physical size - we all know who the "biggest aristocrat" is) prefers an aristocratic president.
